He did a whole bit about it but I can't find anything else about Bob Einstein (his real name) and any story about the surgery. I'm pretty sure it was just for the gag. There aren't any pictures of him looking like that except for the appearance on Conan.

yeah man..was a convincing gag though..he seemed genuinely down about the whole thing..wasn't so much funny as it was sad..
