Bad bear year in Alaska

Dude, natives wear masks backwards on their heads in Tiger country because they’re ambush predators and like to attack from behind. They are opportunistic and will attack just about anything when they are hungry. Not just because they’re injured, or any other reason.

Tigers are a really bad example to try and make this point with. They are well known for being man eaters above almost anything else you can bring up. They will kill or go after whatever’s in their path. This is why they are hunted almost to extinction in many areas they are native to. They are feared by the human populations they are near.

Again I think they are, Tigers are obviously a danger but its not generally random attacks but rather the odd animal that starts hunting humans more exclusively and can be a prolific killer of dozens or even hundreds.

This happens a lot on the Kenai where I like to fish. They just waltz up and sniff around. I like to hike back far from crowds and it's pretty uneasy because you'll have to carry a half dozen salmon on you while returning to camp.

Get a couple dogs. They'll sniff a bear out long before you can.

Is it some kind of legal requirement that people with gopros have to label all their fucking videos 'gopro:' or is it, as I suspect, that they are all just cunts?
No idea, but that's from GoPro's YT channel, so they likely do it to include it as a keyword in the title of all their vids. I guess it helps if people actually want to search for GoPro videos.

Where do you want to shoot a bear? The head? Do they put their heads down when they charge? I've always figured a shot from anything in the mouth would be a pretty good deterrent.

Bear 1 : " Hey , you've eaten human , what do they taste of ?"

Bear 2 " Pepper Spray .."

Man, if I ever go to Alaska and go to the woods, this is how I’m rolling.

And if I see one.

waa that the yukon attack?

so sad...cant imagine bein the husband

I never go in the mountains without my 10mm on my side, too many long tailed cats and bears where I go

I'm really stoked that the 10mm is getting so much love these days.

Right?!? Back 12 years ago when I owned my glock 10mm it was damn near impossible to find ammo for it.
My 10 was my first pistol. It's refreshing to see the ammo drop down to not .44 magnum prices.

Should have just handled it like this IMO:

If you're going to go in to back country then you should assume the risk.

Animals paying the price because people want to go for a walk.

That said, packing a gun, spray, and with some good sized dogs would be the way to go if you insist on walking around wild untamed areas.

.357 is minimal, people have gotten lucky with 9mm because the bear turned even though it wasn't a fatal hit, but why be on the lower end of the spectrum?
I know a old timer guide that recently went up in caliber because of a crazy charge they almost didn't survive even though he had a slug gun and his assistant guide a 375 while guiding a bow hunter. He sufferd ptsd for awhile. He was man enough to admit it after a lifetime hunting and guiding in alaska.
I lost a middle toe two years ago when charged by a sow with cubs, last shot I was on my back with my foot between me and her. Fortunately one brained her or she would have ripped my face off before dying from the first shot to the chest. Was a 10mm but a 454 may have stopped her the first shot. That's what I pack now, it's the same weight with more than twice the punch.

Holy shit.....you’re the guy who shot himself during the bear attack??? Get the fuck out!!! That was you?!?!?!

Yeah I'm actually surprised only one person mentioned bear mace. That's what rangers and wildlife conservation people carry.

They're extremely intelligent and there's many stories of humans raising baby bears, releasing them fully into the wild and still being greeted years later by an otherwise wild bear with a hug. Shit, look at this:

I’m a “wildlife conservation people” and I don’t carry bear spray.....I carry a gun.
