There has been quite a few fighters for who finish comes off significant back of the head blows. Nothing is really said or done because the fighter won by TKO and commentary usually sells him on top of it.

This seems bad, logically. There is zero reason why other fighters shouldn't aim at the back of the head so the opponent would change his position from otherwise safe face down leg grab.

If you're going for a finish and the fighter on the ground is rolling around then they are likely to get hit in the back of the head. You can't get hit in the back of the head if you aren't facing the ground, so the fight is basically over by that point anyway.

Generally, I agree, but DRod wasn't rolling around. He was just turtled up on the spot, not moving his head at all.

The shots were definitely on the back of the head, but it's been like this forever and they'll never pause a fight for this stuff.

Everyone knows you aren't penalized so might as well aim there for a good one or two and then just point to the fact that it was over anyway. Works every time.

Just rewatched the stoppage, you people are crazy, there were one or two shots to the back of the head as Rodriguez was rolling around (and he was rolling around despite what some people in this thread say) but he adjusted and hit him mostly on the side of the head or even on the face for the finishing flurry.

That's nothing new. Fedor Hendo. Vitor Akyama. Ect ect. Cheating essentially. They consider it he would of won anyways type of scenario. If it's not too blatant.

Nope, it's not cheating... if you move or expose any part of the back of your head to someone after they hurt you, the other fighter is allowed to strike that area a few times within reason before the ref has to intervene. It's on the person defending themselves to make sure the back of their head is not exposed according to Big John, and then it's the refs job to stop the fight if the fighter does not respond.

edit: shitty grammar

Sounds like utter bullshit. What name is that rule in the UFC rule set ? Non existing bullshit

Do you even train and fight UFC bro, how do you not know the “UFC rule set”?

P.S. rules are defined by the states commission and which of the unified rules of MMA they have adopted. Only time UFC helps set the rules is when they fight somewhere that doesn’t have a sanctioning body and even then I’m fairly sure they use the unified rules and don’t make up their own.

This isn't a tickling contest, sometimes a shot or 2 will get through to the back of the head when someone is covering and moving, it only takes a split second or slight movement for a punch the punch to land to the ear or back if the head

If you're face down and ass up while not defending yourself then that's on you if a few land on the back.
I half agree bc it's on your opponent to know the damn rules but if you are deliberately putting yourself in a position bc of that rule then fair game.

The last fight in which a fighter was hit multiple times in the back of the head the ref didn't stop the fight and the fighter ended up getting laid out and couldn't continue was Tyrell Fortune during Bellator 294. The stupid ref should've stopped the fight after the second blow to the back of the head but he didn't. Fortune ended up taking at least 12 or more solid blows to the back of the head when the ref finally stopped the fight when Fortune was flattened. Luckily the stupid ref called it a DQ win for Fortune.

MMA refs are the worst refs of any sport. They totally ignore multiple fence grabs, open hands with fingers pointing at opponents face and lastly blows to the back of the head. Multiple violations of the sport that go by with just a warning most of the time and rarely do we see a 1 point deduction or DQ's due to strikes to the back of the head. MMA refs all need to be retrained or booted out so more qualified refs that enforce the rules are put in place.

Show me a link or quote where anywhere in the UFC it's permited to punch the back of the head. Any place, any sanctioning body, in text form
