It's hard to overstate it's importance as a black comic book fan. A lot of black nerds have felt like they're only sort of allowed to be in the club. We could jump on the bandwagon of other established heroes, but where were OUR guys?


Well now we have our own flagship hero in a movie that wasn't just action, but had something to say to the black community.

They didn't have to, but they dug in and took some time to really address black social issues in what could have been just a forgettable popcorn flick.

And SW getting dominated by the Black Order seems an overstatement. More than once, she saves Vision after he gets surprised attacked. At times, Wanda has to essentially deal with Glaive and Proxima two on one and she holds her own. Even when Cap needs to make the save, Wanda was trying to get Vision out of harm’s way but got knocked out of the sky. She still was ready to fight the two of them and protect Vision. It’s not as though Cap, Nat, and Sam save her when they are about to strike a death blow to her and Vision.

Also, on the battlefield in Wakanda saves Black Widow and Okoye and takes out a bunch of outriders by elevating that alien vehicle and dropping it onto a big group of them.

Sure she needs help taking on Proxima but the Black order was consistently shown to be really dangerous.

Actually it’s a nice touch that Wanda and Vision get to be the ones to take out Proxima and Glaive- each getting help from other heroes to do so.

I also felt like caps appearance and their reaction really shows what caps all about.


Although both of them have practically godlike power compared to Cap, you see them both turn and smile in relief because they know it'll be ok.


Captain America is here. Brief understated badass moment that underscores that these godlike beings look up to and gladly follow a mere mortal

There's nothing racist about coming together to see a VERY positive portrayal of your race in a genre that typically ignores you.

It's because of Ryan Cooglar. No one would have been a better choice for Black Panther.

He should go on to even greater things. Most likely he'll get to make whatever movie he wants to now.

I liked him in civil war, but getting to see him get more screen time as the lead..... This guy is absolutely overflowing with charisma. Look forward to seeing him in other things, this will make him a star for sure.
 
And for anyone that doesn't understand why BP CAN'T be racist, it's because racism is EXCLUSIONARY. This was the exact opposite.


Welcoming and INCLUDING a group that's been largely ignored within the genre in the past. This was a movie about bringing people together. My theater cheered loudly when Wakanda was shown in IW, and I live in a town with like ten black people in it.

No guy, I'm talking about Ryan Cooglar the writer and director of Black Panther. He did Fruitvale Station, then pitched Creed to Stallone and directed that before getting the BP gig.

Boseman is cool for sure and the best choice to play Black Panther that I can think of, but he already had been playing black heroes (Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, James Brown) so this role was the natural progression for him.

Oh I'm terrible with actors names lol. Speaking of Fruitvale station, Michael B Jordan was great as Kill monger too.


Yeah I thought they did an amazing job with the look of everything. I was wondering how they would handle the contrast of a super technologically advanced city, but still honoring all these old tribal customs.


That's a contrast that should probably look a little goofy when converted from the page to the screen, but it's great.


Another theme that I thought the movie handled quite well. You can stay true to your cultural beliefs and customs while still being forward thinking and open minded.

we as people should never do anything just because of race. Its dumb, good or bad. We are people thats it.

I have no problem with it. I think you may not really understand black culture and how many black kids are born into a society hating themselves and each other. In America they are one of the weakest links and definitely need to be uplifted.

Imagine being one of millions of black kids growing up in an urban environment, and all you see is negativity on the news about your people. And all the black shows are retarded and either about rapping or selling drugs. You come to have a certain viewpoint about not only the society you grow up in, but about yourself as well. Kevin Lee has talked about his insecurity on the JRE as well.

It’s a big deal because despite Hollywood making stupid sjw movies like all women ghostbusters, it’s still mostly white. And black people don’t always have positive or intelligent roles in Hollywood

Definitely not inflated, but black people definitely drove that number up signifigantly because it’s the first time a black character had a signifigant role/budget in a major marvel film outside of blade. Just like with Obama. That being said, I enjoyed the movie but gave it a 6.5/10 because it really wasn’t that great.

What's funny to me is that blade was the movie that really kicked off this latest wave of comic book movies, so you could say it all started with a black hero.

But I guess that movie didn't really tackle issues, it was just a cool flick.
 
I’ve been wanting to watch Black Panther again.. is it online for rent anywhere yet?
