Captain America wouldn’t do well in the Kobyashi Maru test. He’s not capable of making the hard decisions (like killing vision to save trillions).

Technically of course nobody does well at that unless they cheat.

Right, I’m thinking of the wrong test. I was thinking of the command test from TNG where you can only be a command officer if you’re capable of ordering an officer on a mission that will end in their certain death. In season 7 Troi had to order a holographic Geordie to fix a warp core breach that would kill him in the process.

Ok, so saw this movie the other day.

Pros: thanos’s cgi is top notch. Shit exploded and fights were cool as hell. There was some emotional attachment to the characters.

Cons: Drax has gone from a ‘I take things literally funny’ to a ‘I’m literally a moron and not so funny’ type of guy; I don’t get this at all. Everything Drax does and says tries to be funny but comes across as desperate and forced. Iron man’s and Spiderman’s suit were not great looking(they’re not awful but the cgi does stick out) The Hulk being a bitch was lame. And tops: IT’S NOT A STAND ALONE MOVIE!

I would rate this as fresh if I was rotten tomatoes critic.

Come on, man. You can’t honestly say what he does in this film is funny. He goes full homo with Thor, gets turned into squares, has his ass handed to him by a cape, and then dies.
his character is pretty consistent to the one shown in Vol 2.... and I enjoyed his part in that. I dont get what you were expecting?

oh and he also turns invisible.... although that should be air quoted lol

They're only called "airquotes" because it used to be we didn't type as communication.

I felt Guardians 2 overplayed this kind of humour a little but really Bautista has become an excellent comic straight man and delivers this kind of stuff very well. His character didn't really have much weight in this film its true but I think with the size of the cast that's forgivable.

Generally I think that Marvel uses humour much more effectively than say the recent Starwars or Trek films. In that case it feels like the humour is actively undermining the setting, with Marvel it feels more like its humanising it to me. Grand fantasy like the original Starwars and Lord of the Rings tend to try and do that more via giving seriousness to the setting but Marvels recent setting is so cartoonish that's difficult to pull off(outside of maybe the Cap sequels) so keeping the characters from being po faced ala DC(although when they try humour you wish they didn't) is the alternative.

I believe Transformers 1 started the “marvel type humour” trend

I really appreciate the balls Marvel has when they made the movie. Going into this I figured Infinity War would be toned down into some sort of slapstick movie like Ragnarok or the GotG movies but holy shit does this break the usual superhero movie mold.

To be fair Turturro does deliver what he's given pretty well but still I'd say its both not as well written and again tends to feel tacked on at the expense of the setting, Marvel to me feels like the humour is more a natural part of the characters and setting rather than detracting from it.

I mean I don't think they always get it right, the Doc Strange film for me was pushing into joking at the films expense at points but most of the time they do.

I'm going to give Marvel the benefit of the doubt. With so many movies and complicated plots they've done pretty well with covered plot holes.

"hmmmmmmmm not yet that bitch is dangerous" - This was hilarious cause I can seriously see SJ saying it like that if it wasn't a disney movie anyways.

indeed.. they literally huddle at one of their homes and BBQ all day and night long, drink and talk comic books for work. Sounds more like playtime IMO but they are huge fans of the material and they invest tons of time to make sure they do it right for us fans. You can shit on their delivery (jokes, the action, the CGI) but no one can deny that they do a solid if not great job for us fans.

This movie is going to be hard to rewatch cause I'm going to be yelling at all the heroes.

JUST LET VISION DIE!!! HE WANTS TO DIE!! IT'S THE BETTER OPTION!!!

STAR LORD NO!!! JUST WAIT 5 SECONDS TO PUNCH HIM!!!

Dr. STRANGE JUST KEEP THE TIME STONE SAFE ASSHOLE!!!

etc etc

Cap's inability to make sacrifices, and other heroes in general was a big weakness vs Thanos who did ANYTHING to get his goal.
Everything happened the way that Dr Strange wanted it to happen

Including Clippy's futile theater misbehavior?

They've gone above and beyond anything I thought was possible. I've been a huge Marvel\DC fan growing up I loved these cartoons they were some of the most memorable moments of my child hood. I never thought we would see something on this level ever. I just didn't think the product was popular enough to get proper funding. I expected something more a long the lines of the poorly budgeted live action anime's.

Kirk would fail that test for sure
