Asmongold

And once again, I didn't say Twitch is an echo chamber.

You said viewers on Twitch just like to hear opinions they agree with, which implies when they hear opinions they disagree with they stop watching.

That's the definition of an 'echo chamber.'

I said it's not a source of quality commentary on politics and similar issues. It'd be a stretch to even argue it's a good source of general cultural commentary.
The viewers on Twitch, regardless if they're watching Asmongold or Hasan, disagree.

Which begs the question what 'source or quality commentary on politics and similar issues' would you recommend?

MSNBC? They wish they had the viewers these Twitch streamers have.

Which is why I noted that this is why you don't go to Twitch for insightful political commentary. There are far better sources of left and right political commentary available.
Such as?
Talent, luck, algorithm going their way, it's the same as most media and entertainment to be honest.
A more specific word you're probably looking for is 'authenticity' which no one with a producer writing their scripts for them to read off a teleprompter has.
Building an online audience does not equate to actual insight and expertise in political or social commentary. Again, are titty streamers good commentary just because they can command large followings?

Ability isn't a straight popularity contest.
No one is jerking off to Asmongold or Hasan's streams.
No one would subscribe to their OF if they had an OF.
Titty streamers are irrelevant to this discussion and bringing them up shows how desperate you are.

Did I say primary or secondary school teachers are good sources of commentary.
You haven't said anywhere is specifically a good source of commentary.
I brought them up as we've all had bad teachers that didn't give a fuck.
Regardless if it's school subjects or 'commentary,' we all wanted to learn more and be 'educated' on a wealth of subjects about life.
And its very clear that some 'teachers' are far better than others.

Now if we're talking higher ed, then yes person for person you're gonna find better commentary usually if their field aligns with the topic.
Oh this is ironic.... because the only person I know of that was an accomplished and accredited academic that has built a noteworthy online presence is.... Jordan Peterson.

And the type of people what have endlessly criticized Professor Peterson from his initial online fame from protesting Canadian speech codes.... are people like you Avenue94.

So, I'm going to be busy over the next few days with little time to drop by the thread. If I could say something to Asmongold's critics it'd be this...
Thank you.

In this day and age someone becomes famous by being attacked online, and its quite obvious leftists have been attempting to discredit Asmongold because he's not in the 'Turning Video Games Into Leftist Propaganda' movement, and he puts a spotlight & celebrates their failures like Veilguard, Concord, and this new game that no one knew about until it failed.

Why on earth should I feel obliged to support games developers?

I support them when they give me games that I like. I support SEGA, because I've always been a SEGA kid, but that will change if they stop pumping out games that I didn't want to buy. For example, I bought Pirate Yakuza in Japan for full price (and I love it), but I thought that the DLC was unnecessary, so I just bought the base game.

Then there is the fact that games have become more expensive and the world is getting more expensive. Some of these "editions" go towards or over the line of £100.

If developers want to stay in business then they need to provide a product that justifies their existence, and that's through making a good game that makes spending hours upon hours of players free time playing it, worth it.

Nobody should feel guilty tripped into spending money solely just to support some useless developer, or to spread some social messages. What entitlement. Fuck that.

Where in my post you quoted, or any post have I ever made, have I implied you or anyone should 'feel obligated to support game developers' in general?

I never cared about his game streams but I overall like him as a personality. He seems like a pretty reasonable guy. That said, almost all of his videos are political now and it's starting to feel like a grift. Even if I agree with someone politically, it gets a little tiresome seeing nothing but political commentary from everyone now.

I don't know why it officially becomes "grifting" when they weigh in on politics. I mean, this dude creates hour long videos over some clips from other streamers, about shit like the "Hawk tua" girl. What's the grift? They're just content creators always creating content. If it moves the needle, they'll talk about it. I don't see the big deal. They're just gettin' them clicks. It's their entire career.

You don't understand, he needs to sit on WoW all day grinding mats because hes a video game streamer. Anything outside of that is a grift.

Lowest form of content creation is react content. For all the individual is doing is reuploading others produced content.

While Asmongold isnt as egregious as others when it comes to his react content. He has no expertise, schooling and life experiences on these topics. Additionally he actively avoids discussions on these topics with others. Relying solely on the community he has fostered to reinforce his opinions.

Just an FYI. Before he became a popular WoW streamer his primary method of acquiring mats was from scamming other WoW players. When he became a popular WoW streamer this changed to his viewers giving him mats for free.

I don't care lol

Sure, but that's a very long list. He's not exactly unique in that regard. Most popular streamers feed off of each other. It's one big ecosystem.

I'm just amazed that nobody gets sued. Asmongold is far from the worst offender, as he at least still uploads original content aa well. There are influencers out there that do nothing but ape others' content. I think that they're just advertising another channel most of the time, and they probably all operate under the same banner.

Ones that do are predicated on personal grievances in lieu of defamation. Original content creator doesnt have the funds and cant afford the negative repercussion with suing a top 1% influencer.

Sure, but there are 1% influencers stealing from 1% influencers all the same, and still nothing. I imagine that there's some weird internet law that allows them to do it. I mean, that "Quartering" dude may have 100 collective minutes of original content, at best. His whole channel is built on others' content. He's far from the only one too.

Fair use.

"Fair use is a legal doctrine that allows the use of copyrighted material under certain circumstances without permission from the copyright holder, particularly for purposes such as commentary, criticism, research, teaching, or news reporting.46 However, YouTube does not decide what is considered "fair use"; only local courts can make that determination."

Its an exploitative loophole for react content YT creators.
Fair use in my interpretation is better for free speech overall.

Edit: That Quartering dude is the worst.

I generally loath react content too. It takes a long time/manpower to put together video essays. If you want to have knowledge on the subject matter, and put a lot into the production values, the hours add up exponentially. You better attempt to put some effort into your take on the subject matter, otherwise it's nefarious, especially if its being monetizing.

At least Asmond is entertaining, subjectively of course. He gives what I think are genuine responses/thoughts for the topic, and always links the creators he's reacting too. He has a huge platform too, so I'm sure he's made many content creators more successful.

The worst are those dipshits who do nothing but nod or raise an eyebrow, basically stealing content.

I enjoy Asmond's videos. I only knew him as the goofy skeleton looking guy who reacted to Bloodborne lore players before some of you guys started sharing his stuff like mad. I really don't get the hate for him either. There are things he says that I don't agree with, but who doesn't lol.

I like when he uses some British AI voice over for context, that always makes me laugh.
