Askren on how the UFC screwed him

Obligatory

Really interesting interview. Sheds a light on the situation. Rogan is clearly sympathetic as well.

If what Askrin says is true, Dana White is a real piece of shit.

Who would have thought?

Bjorn was who really screwed him.

He has a hate on for Dana and UFC so will take what he says with a grain of salt, just as you should do with Dana and the UFC as well. Somewhere in the middle lies the truth.

Cliffs:

Askren's contract was up with Bellator. He had a 12 month matching clause. The UFC told him they wanted him but because of the fallout with Alvarez's contract dispute they wanted Askren to get rid of the clause.

Askren went to Bjorn and asked for a release from the clause they granted it.

He went back to the UFC, sent over the release and they said they would offer him a contract but stipulated that he fight once in WSOF.

He agreed and then Dana came out and stated that they had no interest in him. He flew to vegas and met with Lorenzo but still no clear picture as to what the problem was.

His theory is that because he challenged Dana publically about USADA testing all fighters (dana at the time said it was impossible, Askren publically disagreed, and now all are tested). Plus his fighting style was a possible issue.

He also felt that the UFC wanted to mess with Bellator by having its champ vacate. on top of that the perspective that the Bellator champ coming to the UFC and being champ there would add legitimacy to the Bellator roster.

Cliff note

UFC offered a contract and then rescinded.

The rest is two goofs jawwing at each other.

If Dana did sign him, all we would would here is how boring he is, lay n pray bs. Doesn’t matter if he wins, casual fans don’t get the style. My thing was always this...if you don’t want a wrestler on you all fight, get good enough to get him off.

And yet as Askren quite rightfully pointed out, GSP has a similar style with years with no finishes. And was a top draw in the UFC.

I agree with you. I hate it when the crowd boos at a takedown.
Like wtf, if you don't like grappling then go watch a whole different sport called Kickboxing.

I want Askren back, Dammit

askren should of been given a shot in the UFC. it's sad that politics played a role in him not getting a shot, but i'm glad he got a big contract in ONE FC and got paid some serious money. good for him.
