beautiful isnt it?

When you climb tothe top of some of those towers in utah, how do you get back down? Isnt down climbing much more difficult?

I don't climb in Utah, but yes, down climbing is way more dangerous. Most accidents happen on the way down. Abseil beeyotch.

Are you died yet?

No.

Only way I free climb a thing over 30 ft is if I'm being chased by my ex mother in law........ that woman was pure evil.

I know all about that.

Wouldn't you agree that Alex Honnold is a little bitch? Climbing aside, the dudes a femenist, vegan, and atheistic.

He's awesome until he's dead. Nothing wrong with any of those attributes.

Do you have a death wish? Can I have your record player?

I'm actually currently in the market for a good record player.

I recently watched Free Solo, as a fellow climber, what's your thought on that movie if you've seen it.

Good for Alex. He's crazy and will die, but good for him. I don't know why people do that.

I know him IRL, thanks man. Do you want his home address to verify this? His 1st grade teacher's favorite color?? I feel like I am being ridiculed for no reason man. Ask the man something about rocks

@Skevious Manholelicker what was the tallest rock you climbed? Which rock was the hardest?

Tallest pile of rocks I've climbed is just shy of 23,000 feet, truly a pile of rocks. Hardest was Denali.

Did I tell you guys I had no dog in this fight?

Do you work at a nuclear power plant?

@Skevious Manholelicker has a wealth of experience climbing to the top of large rocks, with very little trinkets or accessories attached to him. I could have conversations for hours about his thrilling runs and climbs, but I figured I'd share that pleasure with all of you! Any climbers on these boards?

Please direct questions and tag @Skevious Manholelicker

I'm just here for the view 8)

@Skevious Manholelicker what’s freebase climbing? Is that just another word for free soloing?

I have a sincere question: Is there a relatable high? It doesn't seem like it can be an up like the adrenaline dump from fighting or skydiving. Doesn't seem like it's purely cerebral like a good chess maneuver either. Is there some more common form of feeling it can be likened to so that a person like myself can comprehend (cuz I sure as shit ain't about to start free-climbing).

I think OP meant free soloing, and I think that has more to do with the recent prominence of free soloing in pop culture than with my own actual ability. I'm not a free solo'er. I climb huge ass mountains (mountaineering, alpinism) and I rock climb with ropes. Occasionally I find myself unroped and in a sketchy spot, but it's usually bad planning, not thrill seeking.

I haven't found one.

Thanks. When I watched free solo last month I had read up a bit on the different types of free climbing so when I read the thread title I kind of went

{<huh}

Do you get more comfortable with climbing at that height the more you do it ?

Don’t bother bud
Duff doesn’t understand the concept of people knowing/talking to each other off site

It’s a huge waste of ya time
Trust me, I’ve been down this road multiple times with MacDummy

I can fill this in. It's a free solo climbing variant where the climber wears a parachute in case he falls. It's not a very effective strategy, because falling off a climb involves falling straight down, and most climbs are not sufficiently overhanging and tall to allow a climber to turn, track away from the wall, and deploy the chute. However, there are a small number of climbs where this is a viable strategy. One of them, from the OP, is this route which I believe is on the north face of the Eiger (he would later stage an actual freebase "fall" demonstrating proof of concept):

How much money do you set aside annually for climbing-based travel/equipment.
