Ask a deaf guy anything

So these questions are bound to get asked, let me get them out of the way.

-Do you ever get pity sex?

-Does sex ever get awkward for the girl (maybe guy?) since she can't talk to you?

-If a girl moans very loudly, could you pick up the vibration?

Srs questions.

Nice answer.
Yeah I thought it would be a tough question but an interesting one.

Yes it was hard question to answer but it definitely make me think. Thanks for a great question!

do you play computer games? does it affect your performance? ^^

I'm not big of a gamer. So I don't really play video game, but if I do, I honestly think I just really suck at it simply because I'm not accustomed to play video game, not because of my deafness lol.
However there are plenty hardcore deaf gamers out there though. It is just not my thing.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to be so open, also don't worry so much about the grammer police around here. English is my second language as well and occasionally I get called on misspelled words or usage of them in a sentence.

English is my first language and id be fucked without spell-check :P haha

Do you ever get pity sex?- Ugh I hope not! But since I usually prefer to know girls for a while before getting in the bed with them, I don't think they did it out of pity.

Does sex ever get awkward for the girl (maybe guy?) since she can't talk to you?- Sometime, but nothing major. One time a girl want to tie my hands and blindfold me... It did got rather awkward and millions of questions start to run through my head lol.

If a girl moans very loudly, could you pick up the vibration?- yes I can. In fact she don't even have to be that loud if I'm touching her chest, neck or face.

A few more if you don't mind.

-What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
-What do you do for a living, and how tough is it to get a job?
-Do you get government subsidies or support?

Am I completely deaf? Yes in fact I'm nearly profoundly deaf to point where even hearing aid is pretty much useless.

Can I read lips? Somewhat... I have to know the person for a while and they have to say same thing again and again before I finally get it down. Sometime I do get lucky and understand what the person are saying but it really depends on the situation.

Do I wonder what music is like? Yes I do because I can feel the vibrate but I just cannot understand how people could be so into music. So I have pretty much accepted that I will never understand why and to not even bother trying.

Was I born deaf? How did I become deaf? No I wasn't born deaf, I become deaf at two years old after getting spinal meningitis.

Can I tell if people have accents? No

Do I get paranoid that people are talking about me? Nah... I'm pretty sure they may will say a thing or two about me at some stage in their life such as "I once know this deaf guy..." or "At work, this deaf guy come and order something" Which doesn't bother me a one bit.

I dont know why, but the parts in bold made me tear up :icon_cry2

BiggThump- You're welcome! I normally don't let it get to me, but since so many people ask all of the time, I thought I'd just get it out of the way.

Blitz55- Lol! As for answer to your question, the name start out as a joke. In my second fight, the opponent I fought end up about 15 lbs over weight. I push for the fight to happen and accept it. End up won. Since I live with bunches of Philippino and Vietnamese roommates, they jokely call me white mongoose because I'm white and fought a guy bigger than me and won. It just stick ever since.

This is a shame :(

do you hear sometimes things? i mean things that your brain makes up (nothing that someone can really hear)

English is my first language and id be fucked without spell-check :P haha

The little woman hooked me up with that recently and it's done wonders for me,even more than one of Mike Dolce's books.

Cool story, great nickname fella!!

A few more if you don't mind.

I don't mind at all

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?- I love to be outdoor in general. I rock climb and hike a lot. I also spend a lot of time in the river and try to go to beach to bodyboard as often as possible. I'm also always trying to pick up a new hobby such as right now I have my eyes on street luge.

What do you do for a living, and how tough is it to get a job?- I will message you as I'm probably the only deaf person doing my type of job and don't want words to get out to other organization.
It was incredibly tough getting a job. Job hunting is the worst thing for me. It isn't uncommon for person to just never call me back no matter what or give me a job then change what I was suppose to do.
For example, about two years ago I landed a job with water district. I was suppose to dig trench and install pipe and make $22 a hour. On the day I show up for the job, the manager told me that it is too dangerous for me to work in the street and gave me a land scape job around office and want to pay me $7 a hour and work about 10 hours a week. Needless to say I left.
It take me about 2 years to get the job I have now.

Do you get government subsidies or support?- As much as I hate to say this, but yes... I do. I hate it. I really don't like to rely on other people to support me and it bothers me to great deal. But now I don't because I have a job and cannot be any happier.

I figured getting a job would be pretty brutal, but its nice to see you have that covered. I think it coincides with your hobby pretty well too, so that's always great.

Anyways, thanks for your answers.

edit: One last pair of questions if you don't mind.

Since your social group is probably limited cause of communication issues, do you spend a lot of time by yourself? Especially on the internet?

Do you sometimes have a vastly different opinion of a fight than whats on the forums since you can't hear Rogan's biased commentary? How did you score Diaz vs Condit?

Thanks. Yeah I cannot be any more grateful! In fact I love it and am always looking forward to it.

Is shooting, and guns a favorite activity amongst the hearing impaired? I ask because you dont have to wear those earmuffs.

If not, what is the most popular sport for the hearing impaired?

Shit! So sorry! I apologize, I didnt saw this at first.

Actually the gun ownership around deaf community is surprisingly low. I'm somewhat assuming it is mainly due to economy reason (large percentage of them live on government income or work a low pay job) so it is far from popular.

Most popular sport for hearing impaired? I'd have to say basketball or softball. You can find deaf basketball or softball in almost every cities or countries around the world. I'm not a fan of any team sport unless it is water polo though.

I was getting the runaround about jobs so I went back to school and got trained for a job I love to do. Life is too short to work a job that makes you miserable or unhappy. I have to say though that street luge reminds me of bungee jumping and you got testicular fortitude to even try it.

It pretty much boil down to social skill. Many deaf people have incredibly poor English Mine isn't great, but most deaf people English is really bad. Here's a few samples of a post from a deaf person who is on my friend list on FB:

Also many deaf people doesn't have parents that can communicate with them so their develop in language start when they are around 5 or 6 and in school.

That doesnt make sense. They still read books dont they? And read subtitled media, and learn grammar in school, etc. Just because they're not speaking out loud doesnt mean their writing should be that atrocious. In fact, their English should be better than a hearing person's because its less influenced by spoken speech and all its errors.

Unless of course, they do all their reading on Facebook and twitter. That'd turn anyone retarded.

Not at all. Yes vast majority of things I do, I do by myself. I have been yelled at by many people for it but... I'm not going to sit and do nothing and wait for somebody to agree to do something with me. Yes I think I rely on internet more than most people, especially when I want to talk or be part of a conversation.

I'd say it is about 50-50. As for Diaz vs Condit, I don't want to turn this into a debate so I'll keep it simple and say I think Condit win.
