It's so stupid UFC is pushing that narrative and 2 guys whom Volk has never faced are fighting for interim belt.To say Volk cleared out the division or has nobody to face is extremely disrespectful.
To be honest and I've been saying this for a while now, Volk beat up past prime Aldo and Mendes, I mean really damaged goods. Then Ortega didn't earn a title shot (won 1 fight after taking a thrashing for the title vs Max) and then post prime Korean Zombie was given a title shot on short notice off name recognition. The only real accomplishment Volk has in terms of greatness is besting Max Holloway 3-0 but you know, the best guys at 145lbs in the UFC right now besides Volk and Max are easily Allen, Evloev and Topuria...he didn't clean out shit. Even Yair vs Emmett is a deserved but unimpressive title challenger.
PS: A lot of the best FWs in the world aren't in the UFC Patricio Freire, Salahdine Parnasse, Islam Omarov, Alikhan Suleymanov, Timur Khizriev are all up there, up there. (Among others) wish the UFC cared enough to sign some of these big hitters.
I agree that he hasn’t really cleaned out his division BUT going 3-0 against Holloway is one of the greatest feats ever accomplished, and Holloway himself has proved himself above the rest of the division. Allen vs Holloway should be next but those other two guys need to get a top 5 win before they are in the title shot conversationTo be honest and I've been saying this for a while now, Volk beat up past prime Aldo and Mendes, I mean really damaged goods. lack of personality
fights once per year
lack of top quality wins - except for injury against Katter
and...ducked Zabit when he was a force to reckon with
Volk moving up isn't disrespectful.
Allen not even being involved in the interim title fight is disrespectful.
Passed up for Yair and his mighty one fight win streak.

Volk is ducking the division. Emmett KOs him
Tbf didn't Yair also do that albeit to such an extent they briefly cut him?lack of personality

Disagree McKee's done at 145, guy's massive for a FW and getting bigger if anything. I very much doubt he ever sees 145 again. About only way he gets that match back against Pitbull is if he fucks up Pitbull's less talented brother at 155, beats Usman then offers Pitbull the chance to regain the family honour and the 155 pound belt that Pitbull effectively abdicated.Don't forget about A.J. McKee. Just because he is taking some fights up at 155, doesn't mean he can't fight at featherweight anymore. Bellator often allows their elite guys to fight at multiple weight classes, similar to KSW with Parnasse.
Freire, Volkanovski, McKee, Holloway, and Allen have separated themselves as the Top 5 in the world at 145.

Take a look how spindly McKee's legs still looked last month. He's the Jon Jones of manlets. If McKee comes to the UFC, it will be at featherweight because he will never be able to physically get anywhere close to the size of lightweights like Fiziev and Makhachev. Not even if he takes all the meldonium on the planet.

Then look at a featherweight like Sodiq Yusuff, who rehydrated to 169 lbs for his fight in California after weighing in at 145.

I mean Yussuff is like 5'7/5'8 or so, he looked a lot shorter than 5'9 billed Arnold Allen and mckee is pretty tall for 145 so its natural he wouldn't be as well built. I think he's a strong 5'10, similar height to islam. Probably small for 155, but I doubt he'd be smaller than say Arman or gamrot.
Hooker is a relevant name, Sodiq and Kattar are both very quality wins.
Objectively a division can't be cleared out since new contenders keep emerging, Volk beat all the contenders when he deserved a title shot at LW before Allen was in the picture for a title shotArnold Allen has a 10 fight win streak right now.
Islam Makhachev had a 10 fight win streak before fighting for the title
Leon Edwards had a 10 fight unbeaten streak before fighting for the title.
Khabib Nurmagomedov had a 9 fight win streak before fighting for the interim title.
Tony Ferguson had a 9 fight win streak before fighting for the interim title.
Max Holloway had a 9 fight win streak before fighting for the interim title.
Charles Oliveira had an 8 fight win streak before fighting for the title.
Jon Fitch had an 8 fight win streak before fighting for the title.
Only counting UFC fights
To say Volk cleared out the division or has nobody to face is extremely disrespectful.
PS: I don't blame Volk for taking the opportunity.
