Tap, rack is a hell of a lot easier than tap, rack, check batteries, check signal strength, call IT for troubleshooting...
Not only this but with weapons known to be troublesome they would abandon them to models that would reliably feed/eject/etc. Same with any ammo issues, dump whats not working. If this ever has a problem they will dump it. Im sure not many will want to put their life on the line when their chances are dependant of the reliability of a computer. Computers are much less reliable than a standard basic mechanical mechanism. You cant really screw up a mouse trap.....
Think about it, currently we have the most informed people to ever live. The phone in my pocket can get on the internet and have most all info in the world. You, me, everyone has more info at our fingertips than any other people that have ever lived, ever. Yet, even with an abundance of information and some of the best and brightest people working for us our government cant make a website reliable. You want officers to put their life on something that has a "call I.T. for technical assistance" sticker on the handle????
