Hey glad to see youre back! How did the baseball tryout go? Any word on that big 3 lift total?

Baseball tryout has not occurred. Playing for another team for now and I will tryout for another in the middle of March. My three lift total is not good right now but im holding on.

If I venture back into to powerlifting you will know.

Arm wrestling always makes me cringe.....I just imagine rotator cuffs & labrums exploding. But since I've had shoulder surgery I guess that's just where my mind goes.

Ya I squint my eyes so I can shut them quick if needed.
More worried about the elbow and radius/ulna

I've been getting a bit into watching arm wrestling through Larry Wheels' channel/quarantine boredom. He just dropped a video with Genadi Kvikvinia and a translator chick. I had no clue that some of those arm wrestlers were such complete freaks of nature like Levan and Cyplenkov. It's kinda interesting to watch, which I wouldn't have expected. Looks like a brutal sport too.

It's also a cool demonstration of the principle of specificity. These arm wrestlers can destroy ultra strong guys (strong in a general sense), because they are extremely strong at a few specific positions/movements that are key in their sport. Of course there's also technique involved, but the specific wrist/hand/forearm strength is still there. It's kinda cool to see.

It'd be interesting to see what some of the top strongmen would be capable of if they trained for it. And they would, if it were a WSM or Arnold event. But, when it was, it didn't go so well...

(don't watch if you're squeamish)

Pulling John was a pretty good (iirc) documentary about John Brzenk. I

Pulling John was legit, Alexey Voyevoda was a real life Ivan Drago.

Arm wrestling is fun to watch, but I don't really follow. I wonder who is best right now for each arm

I think technique is a HUGE part of it.

A coworker of mine came second in the state in armwrestling about 35 years ago. I used to be a bit of a grip nerd (pinched a blob, pinched 2x45s, closed #2.5 CoC easily, bending steel, etc), plus was reasonably strong overall (500/365/607). Him and I armwrestled (albeit prior to my peak strength) and it was ridiculous. It felt like I was armwrestling a robot. I gave everything I had and he just pinned my hand to the bench so smoothly and easily. I was flabbergasted. Like, what in the actual fuck is going on between your torso and hand??? And how is that humanly possible? For what it's worth (not much), he couldn't close my CoC #2, but he was the closest of anyone in the shop who tried.

For anyone that wants to improve at armwrestling, the number one thing that is recommended is to just do it. Find a local club and go and get real practice. You can do all of the exercises you want, even with armwrestling-simulating equipment, but it's just not the same as actually doing it. All of the differences in opponents' strengths, weaknesses, and strategies aren't things you'll know how to deal with until you actually experience them.
