It has always been easy to develope my chest, and my arms to a lessor extent. However, my arm wrestling ability always lags behind. I think the bench press is the best basic test of strength, but everyone wants to use the goddamn arm wrestling.

Can anyone help me with the best exercises, and perhaps # of reps for a person wanting to develope strength specifically for arm wrestling? What exercises do the competitive arm wrestlers use?

Get better arm wrestling technique. It isn't solely based on strength and the strongest guy doesn't always win. There is skill involved.

Hammer curls, grip work(grippers, thickbar), wrist work(levering, wrist curls, wrist roller), rows, chins, and rotator cuff work. Learn technique to beat your friends it doesn't take much to be the average "joe". There are 2 basic moves you could do top roll and hook.

Someone explained what a top roll was so I will use there explanation. Im assuming your right handed so imagine being on the table and your arm in the armwrestling position. Now imagine a glass of water in your right hand. Imitate the motion of pouring that glass of water into your left shirt pocket...now you have just top-rolled. That puts your hand high up thus increasing the leverage you have on him. Do it fast and pull hard. A hook is pretty self explanitory, just flex your wrist inwards and take him down.

As far as exercises go, you can check out the links above. I just googled the shit. I have no idea what arm wrestlers do :icon_conf

I've seen plenty of Arm Wrestling events (usually at the Arnold Fitness Expo waiting for the Power lifting to start). From what I've seen, they pretty much use their whole body and a lot of leverage as long as they can keep their elbows on the table.

Arm Wrestling...
about 5 months ago i entered amateur contest at my uni. Since it was close to summer break and every body got druk i with my buddiesd decided to get some food. Prize for the contest was shit load of pizza. So i say 'lets' eat.It was really nothing big 16 men contest and to be honest, even 2 girls signed.
Even though i'm a small guy (5'11 170lbs but i look like 120lbs :)) i was allways pretty good at it. So i got me a pretty easy way to the final. Got 2 alot bigger guys looking one like 230lbs, second a bit smaller and one m,aybe 140. So in final comes this shitfaced guy (my buddies later found out that he was also snorting some shit). He wasn't big, about my size, but damn...
he totally extended my arm and almost won two times, but since he was grabbing the table with second hand it didn't count. So in 3 i said to my self fuck it when he pulled the same shit again and i grabbed the table started pulling. I got to neutral possition instantly but...
my facking arm snapped! and not forearm. It was so loud and simply omg!
8 weeks in plaster 3 screws. in about month i have opperation to remove it. but this huge scar will remain. Doctor said that my bones are far from weak and that was some massive pressure on the bone that twisted it and separated.
Long story short. Don't forget about technique :)
And my x-rays are wicked :) i'll try to post them later
Despite this looked really bad, i started lifting about week after plaster was removed.

Sorry for quality but it's my shitty mobile cam, but i thjink that you'll get the idea.

Yeah Magnus broke Nathan Jones' arm in the strongman competion.

I recommend watching the movie Over the Top. http://imdb.com/title/tt0093692/

Not because it's a good movie, but because it is horribly bad and at the same time is the best and worst movie centering around arm wrestling.

Nice compound movement Sovietspy!! or is that more spiral??

Yeah my buddy snapped his arm in about the same place, the sound is terrible and the scare after is pretty damn big.

.

Jesus Christ it looks like you ruined your arm! I don't understand, I thought only the big monsters snapped arms. Why would a regular person's arm snap like this? Was it just really bad technique?

Yeah it was spiral, you can see it a bit by the way they inserted screws. And scar... it's bigger than my dick :)
It was mostly beacuse bad technique, cause he extended my arm almost completly straight plus he used his body weight while i did not. Bone twisted and snap. But i guess it goes this way when you don't know what your doing and the other guy does.
It swell horribly but it looked kinda cool cause i never had arm this big :).
I'm glad that elbow wasn't messed up and that muscles were safe. But like i said i started lifting week after the plaster was gone and i'm alot stronger now exept the bench press. I think i recovered in about a month, then i started to progress. But it still aches a bit when i do something similar to armwrestling moves, but it gets better every day, so i think it's not that bad.
But i have one advice for heavy lifters: never break your arm, ever. Doctors had problem to get to the bone with my 15,5" arm so what would be the with bigger ones. Probably operation would mess up your muscles more then injury itself.
And sorry for my english :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the forearm bones more likely to break in armwrestling? It appears that you broke your humerous. You were putting a lot of bodyweight into it.

I thought so too. I didn't, dude i was wrestling with was and grabed the table. I was pissed beacuse grabbing was banned and said fuck it and did the same. When i defended to neutral position it was literally BOOM. I thought some dude of oposite crew hit me from behind cause there was a lot of agression frome both sides, but i was the impact of the bone to the muscle that felt like a punch. But when the dust came down it was all cool and everybody calm down exept one lard-ass whitch i almost bitch slapped with my limp arm :).

The bench press is not even close to the best basic test of strength. The squat, deadlift, standing overhead press, and power clean are all much better tests of overall strength. The bench press is just popular because you get to lie down and it doesn't take much skill.

Arm wrestling is all about wrist, arm, and internal rotator strength, combined with loads of technique.

And I think you're a douche for thinking such nonsense.

Anyways, asside from GOOGLING ARM WRESTLING and following the advice you come up with, I suggest thickbar pullups.

THis thread gives me the chills.
