Media Ariel Hits Out at the 'Bastardized McGregor Effect'

this is not a lecture anyone needs to hear from ariel helwani. he does this wwe-style trash talk, to the point where other people have had to admonish him: "ariel, one day some fighter is going to confront you irl and beat your ass." i don't think it's justified for anyone to attack ariel btw, but he's not the one to complain about anyone's lack of decorum.

Helwani is a fucking idiot if he thinks there was ever a time where Conor was funny. When exactly did he go too far if calling Siver a Nazi wasn’t it?

They’re both lowlife fucksticks.

He's right about early Conor being good, but just because most of the trash talk is literal trash I don't think anything should be done about it. I have no problem with people embarrassing themselves

Conor was never that good at trash talk either. He has always been loud and likes to talk shit but it’s always been kind of cringey when he speaks. However Conor also backs it up in the cage in that he is very entertaining when he fights, win or lose, Conor’s fights are exciting. That is a big reason why he became so famous along with his trash talking.

I'll take pro wrestling angles over two boring guys not selling the fight.
It's funny because anyone even pretending that they would not take the pro wrestling angles is lying. As evidenced by the fact of that leon vs colby fight selling AT ALL. the idea that you could take two fighters generally considered boring and selling it as a ppv mainevent because one guy wears a red hat and says mean things.

it's actually hilarious if you think about it and kinda fuckin sad as well.

i never found conor's trash talk all that slick, but his timing and personality really resonated with the crowd. like when he told mendes "i can rest my balls on your forehead." it wasn't a particularly witty line, but conor had the whole crowd on his side, and his timing and delivery made everyone laugh.

i don't think anyone can mimic that. some people got it, some don't.

Im not lying when I say that sir.
The fights are what matters to me.

yeah...

but without the drama, no one in their right mind would give a rats ass about colby vs leon. The drama is the only reason. It truly felt like the most talked about ppv all year other than the AD card which had so many crazy changes in such a short time it had to be discussed.

I would've been fine with it because the results are what matter man.
Belal should've been in there anyway.

Stating the obvious.

A lot of fighters saw Conor's success and thought they could get a piece of that, but had neither the wit nor the fighting skills to pull it off. Colby just took it to such an extent that it had to return some result, though I think people in the MMA bubble have an exaggerated impression of how much of an effect it's had.

Even Conor himself got lazy with his shtick, and just started being shouty and obnoxious.
Conor has no skill on the mic, he was just a flash in the pan with an annoying accent that brought in a bunch of casuals. 99.9% of the WWE roster would outwit him on the mic. Conor was a poor mans Chael that’s all.

Ariel Helwani saying positive stuff about Paradigm fighters (McGregor, Edwards)
What a surprise

Why is Ariel pretending he's better than this?

People watch him for the drama.
It's not like anyone watches Ariel for his insight.
Ariel does not even watch fights.

Ariel trash talk fighters and doesn’t even fight himself. Let the fighters say what they want, they’re the one who have to get in the cage and back it up.

Say whatever u want who cares

If someone say something you don’t like you’ll have to opportunity to punch and kick them
