At the time it was a temporary pause for evaluation. This isnt a gift. Its a loan that the US should be repaid. It poses some risk if the peso still falls but its the third largest economy in South America. Its important imo.

Agreed that its not the lone metric but in general heading in the right direction. I will look into it as you suggest. Qatar is one of our friends in terms of our guaranteed military support since 1992 (our base there for all mideast operations) and now all of the economic investment.

Qatar's committed investment to the U.S. includes a $500 billion pledge from its sovereign wealth fund, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), to be invested over the next decade in sectors like AI, data centers, and healthcare. This is in addition to other commitments, including a $1.2 trillion "economic exchange" announced in May 2025, which includes both U.S. investment in Qatar and Qatari investment in the U.S., as well as significant bilateral agreements like a $96 billion deal for Boeing aircraft.

Pause doesnt mean stop forever. It was a response to a temp pause to funnel money where needed. Not forever. This was a 90 day pause originally to evaluate and spend where needed in the example I was responding to.

I'm for subsidizing Farmers as we have always done. But this is the third largest economy in South America. It failing is not a good thing

A leader that has reduced inflation considerably. Cant say about a grift. But I can say that if this loan stabilizes them then its not a bad thing.

Again though, the best you could argue is that Trump -who has never shown any sign of anything remotely resembling human empathy- is doing the right thing for the wrong reason. But that's conceding it is the right thing, which I don't buy is actually the case. And couple that with his administration carrying out essentially the opposite of this policy almost everywhere else, and the picture gets much much clearer. Our entire foreign aid apparatus has been gutted to a skeleton crew. Our own social spending is being deleted under the guise of austerity, millions facing loss of their SNAP benefits, and yet somehow we're expected to buy that propping up this dude with many billions of dollars is somehow appropriate.
