I used to have 6 or 7 drinks a week, but I only ever chased a buzz (apart from a handful of unfortunate evenings). I still have a pretty stocked liquor supply, but now I'm down to maybe 3 or 4 drinks a month. Weed has a better high (IMO), no hangover, and helps me sleep. So that's my go-to now.
But as far as which booze I choose...
Vodka
Preferred brand - Absolut. There's nothing wrong with vodka, but I prefer gin for most things I'd use vodka in.
Preferred drink - Either white russians (which I'll also sometimes add amaretto to, which makes it even better), or just mixed with a lemon / lime soda.
Gin
Preferred brand - Beefeater. Maybe the best deal in booze. Hendricks if I want something a bit more complex.
Preferred drink - I'll generally mix with ginger ale, or with club soda and lime for a rickey. Occasionally I'll do a gin & tonic. In the winter it's going in a martini with plenty of olives.
Bourbon
Preferred brand - Makers Mark Cask Strength
Preferred drink - Neat with a splash of water, or on the rocks. Not usually a bourbon drinker.
Scotch
Preferred brand - Laphroig
Preferred drink - Neat
Tequila
Preferred brand - I don't really care for tequilla, but if I'm mixing I'll just get 1800. If I want something that actually tastes decent, I'll get Don Julio Anejo.
Preferred drink - Tequilla sunrise is probably the only tequilla drink I've ever had. I have mixed it with citrus sodas, but I'd much rather not use tequilla. Don Julio Anejo is a good sipper.
Rum
Preferred brand - Mount Gay
Preferred drink - I'm a slut for a pina colada. Rum goes well with a few different sodas as well. It's fine neat, but not very interesting.
Brandy
Preferred brand - I've only ever had Hennessy and D'usse. I preferred the D'usse.
Preferred drink - Neat
Amaretto (in an amaretto sour, a white russian, or hot chocolate)
Chambord (in a summery soda drink or hot chocolate)
Peach Schnapps (in iced tea)
Peppermint Schnapps (in hot chocolate)
