Are you going to watch the total solar eclipse? - April 8th, 2024

I watched the one in 2017 and in Washington it was like 85~90% coverage, and it felt like dusk for a minute but even with the glasses you couldn't actually see the sun getting blocked. The sliver still exposed was so bright, the sun didn't look any different. Washington is so far off the path this time, we're not making any plans to try and watch it.

Seeing a total solar eclipse is an incredible experience. Even at 99% totality it's still too bright to look at, you have to be in the total umbral shadow.

You can totally understand how people would have freaked the fuck out without astronomical knowledge of what was happening. I saw the one in 2017 and will be seeing this as well.

the news says the next one in america will be in 21 years........ as if I can last that long, so I'll see the totality in another country........ kind of screwed up not planning for this bucket list worthy event.
