Are Macbooks worth it?

I've got a Macbook and really like it, but I do a lot of music editing. For your needs I would just get a PC. Who is that in your avatar picture btw? That picture is definitely familiar.

If your machine shuts off spontaneously, try identifying your parts and checking out all firmware updates for the parts and read if the particular firmware updates address spontaneous shut downs. I had that problem with a desktop, and updating the firmware for one part fixed the problem, and the firmware description even said that was one problem the firmware update addressed. The F'ing tech support wanted to wipe my harddrive and reinstall the operating system. Nothing they suggested fixed the problem. The firmware update fixed it.
thanks, ill look into it

RE: heat, I have my laptop propped up at the four corners using old vitamin bottles, so there's lots of room underneath for air circulation (like 7 inches of space). I noticed the laptop's fan doesn't work so hard as before since it doesn't get as hot as when I had it propped up by little plastic fruit cup containers (like 2.5 inches of space).

If you're not doing any serious work then don't bother with the Mac. A cheap laptop should be fine.

My old late 2008 MacBook is still chugging along just fine. Handles internet, pictures, writing, office, light gaming. They last forever if you don't get a dud. But I don't think the new ones are worth the money unless you have specific needs they meet.

Look at Asus and Lenovo.

Heck, with what you've said you use your laptop for you could get away with a Chromebook.

i rock a mid-2011 13" macbook air. best machine i've owned.

Get a Dell and chargers breaking fukn sucks but that happens if u have ur laptop for a while.

I have an acer aspire NETBOOK

which i have played games on that require a decent amount of graphics...and this netbook has kept up like a boss.

I leave it on sometimes during the day...i have run multiple programs at the same time and the thing is still kicking after 3 years.

Netbooks aren't meant for this much torment.

I would def. recommend an Acer laptop with an intel processor.
I'm sure experiences vary, but mine has been stellar.

I have heard good things about lenovo as well, and if you check tigerdirect you can get something solid for $400-$500.
