Are BJJ and Muay Thai getting permanently replaced by boxing and wrestling?

Having A-level wrestling and knowing submission defense > Having A-level BJJ, with mediocre wrestling

That said it's 2018. There has been so much cross-pollination it's hard to make clear distinctions, IMO.

Sherdog... LOL! You believe that simply "knowing submission defense" is like some accessory you just toss into the mix? Takes years of training.

Even a freak, like Brock Lesnar, shows you what happens with only a few years' submission grappling experience versus a high level BJJ practitioner - wrestling pedigree or not.

Mir shoulda stuck to toe holds instead of stealing strawberries.

GSP was another posterboy for wrestling + boxing. Anderson Silva was one of the few to do it with the Muay Thai + BJJ style, and it's without a doubt more entertaining.

I mean AS did use Muay Thai, but him and Garbrandt are easily the two most natural boxers in MMA history.

Obviously not counting Tony and Mercer lmao.

The UFC hasn't brought in any Brazilian prospects. All the new fighters are from America or Europe.
There's a grand total of 4 Brazilian HWs on the entire roster and one of them is 40 years old for Christ sake.

Actually I just went through the entire current UFC fighters Wikipedia list and I found a grand total of 3 Brazilians that are 25 years old, or younger.
That's insane.

I don't think so. Wrestling has seemed to take over in the past few years, more-so than before.

The base in USA is wrestling and boxing/sometimes kickboxing
Base in Brazil is kickboxing (rarely Muay Thai) and BJJ

These types will always go against each other and will always have their place in MMA. They will never get replaced by either one.

If Ortega gets the belt then it’s +1 for bjj.

a good couple of these guys have great kicks like TJ, whittaker. and everyone seems to use leg kicks here and there (aside miocic and DC who are horrendous at kicking)
TJ and DJ have superb muay thai and the rest of them have some proficiency.

also, your name, custom title, location, and Enoch Powell av lol. This place has gone to utter shit.
whats the problem in defending europe

Some of the people on you list aren't wrestler/boxers. Whittaker is an amatuer wrestler, a Black belt in Karate, Hapkido and a brown belt in BJJ.
Holloway is BJJ. Like how you mentioned his boxing but left off his BJJ.
Also kickboxing is not boxing.

Its more like now in MMA you have to be well rounded and not just a single art specialist.

GSP was wrestling + Karate. That jab that GSP used is a karate move, not a boxing move. 100% point sparring move with good evasion technique behind it to "get in and get out".

But every fighter listed in TS has at least Purple belt level BJJ too and knows at least good defensive muay thai. Wrestling and boxing may be their base but take away any of the other two and you have a mediocre fighter.

Realistically, you should have compared:

Having A-level wrestling and MEDIOCRE submission defense > < Having A-level BJJ, with mediocre wrestling

lmao...

I was just about to say. Haha He was clearly cherry picking to make one look better.

Or you could say Having A-level wrestling and knowing submission defense < Having A-level BJJ and knowing TD's.

Yup pretty much

The Pareto Principle states that 80% or 4/5 of actual productivity is a result of only 20% (or 1/5) of the actual training/work/preparation. A tiny 20% is responsible for 80% of the gains because it is much more efficient. This efficiency principle applies to work productivity, training, sales, diet, etc etc

A couple of the martial arts disciplines pay off 80% of your success in MMA while the others collectively account for the remaining shard (in varying amounts). That's why it's still important to cross train in other arts, at least defensively.
Peterson popularized the Pareto distribution.

Nice.

A punch is a punch. A kick is a kick. A takedown is a takedown.

It's all about wrestling and steroids.

Well thankfully we still have Eric Silva who is Brazilian in the mix. And he is only 21 years old.
