it's pretty inexplicable the lack of attention he gets here. incredible resume beating all the greats at HW, fighting at the top division of the sport with a well rounded game and wicked subs, exciting as hell and... the rondas and conors and sages are all you hear about. he definitely deserves more love than he gets.

I couldn't disagree more.

I think there are some HW's Jones might beat, but Werdum is his worst possible matchup. Jones couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag, he would have no size advantage, he would get overpowered in the clinch, and taking Werdum down would be suicide.

Eh, i respect the work he's done to evolve and his big wins..
But the guy doesn't impress me. As a fighter he lacks something - he had plenty of gas to troll Browne, but no serious attempt to finish and went for like 3 takedowns in a 5rnder he was dominating.
I see why people think he's a nice guy, but he's an acerbic bully hiding behind jokes (fedor in elevator )

He would not get overpowered in the clinch. Not even Cormier could do that. Jones would still have the reach advantage on the feet, and it matters a lot in the current state MMA is. And taking Werdum to the ground isn't instant loss, even Mark Hunt was on top of Werdum for some time.
 
So happy for him to get the UFC Belt. he never got much credit in PRIDE, SF, and UFC but he's one of the best ever.

Cormier is like 5'10".

Werdum controlled Cain pretty good in the clinch, and the only fighters who have given him trouble were big power strikers (JDS and Reem) which Jones is not. He cant KO a LHW, so I dont see him knocking out Werdum. A fresh Mark Hunt landed in his guard, tucked in his tree stump arms, and made no attempts at offense whatsoever. If Jones actually got him down and postured up to attempt any offense you would quickly see why Werdum is the best grappler in mma.

personally I thought he outstruck Reem in the SF Grand Prix. He was faster and nullified Reem's offence by going to the ground. Looked like he bloodied up Reems nose. I guess that butt scooting pissed everyone off though. I could be wrong it was a long time ago.
