AP: Immigration crackdown shifts to employers as audits surge

So Trump is cracking down on employers as well as offering to double the amount of DACA recipients and speed up immigration processes. All he and his supporters are asking for in return is a wall.

Don't you libs think this is a reasonable compromise on all sides? Isn't this the most fair, sensible, and effective path forward for the comprehensive immigration reform we all claim we want?

Lol you still in with this wall business? You still completely missing the point. By removing financial incentuve to come here illegally you don't need a wall (we don't need a wall even as it stands today).

What is with the hard on for an ineffective, unnecessary costly wall? It's like you want to spend billions in something that would be nothing but symbolic with little real effect.

But I guess that's what Trump is all about: dog whistles and dog treats to make people feel good regardless of reality.

If the administration wants to really tackle the problem of illegal immigration they will turn up the heat on employers like in OP. That's the best, most logical step so far.

This won't be a popular opinion in this thread, but it has to be said:

It's simply not an employer's responsibility to police whose documents are legitimate, and whose documents are artful forgeries. There's an entire cottage industry dedicated to producing forged paperwork that will pass as legitimate, in order to deceive an employer.

An employer should not be fined or sanctioned in any way because the federal government failed to do its job securing the border.

This attempt at shifting blame at employers is intended to distract everyone from who's really at fault for the problem of illegal immigration, lack of enforcement on our border by the Federal government.

this would only effect those that have tax returns, right?

so the off the books jobs these people normally perform should still be open, right?

Illegals cannot get welfare, another right wing myth accepted as fact.

They get other things
In Texas for the WIC program, citizenship is not asked for.
WIC provides low income families with food, baby formulas, classes.

Since you don't have to be a citizen to attend public school, illegal immigrant families are eligible for free lunch free /breakfast at public schools.

The best trick is to pop out the baby here.
Now the baby is a citizen, the 'baby' can apply for the welfare, which is collected by the illegal immigrant parent. Technically not giving welfare to the illegal. But it's only a technicality.

Good. We should be going after the employers that hire them to discourage employment hopes for those looking to cross illegal

Far more effective than wasting resources going after a lone family of illegals simply living here and not truly causing a problem

I'm cool with it. This is what I suggested long long ago instead of a useless, uber expensive wall.

I'm more excited for the reveal that is the ever loved "Small Businesses" that are the main culprits and not the evil large corporations

This is correct.

Often, this is the only way that small businesses can compete with the big boys. So a mom-and-pop restaurant hires a few undocumented cooks and bussers in order to cut down labor costs. With this, they're in an even bigger financial bind while Bennigan's and Chili's benefit.

But it's not about economics, it's about brown faces and foreign languages. With this, you'll see and hear a lot less of both and that's really the only thing that counts.

To be fair, a major corporation will hire any illegal with a "valid" SS#.

If they can pass E-Verify. But at the point what more due diligence are they supposed to do?

There is due diligence and just looking the other way.

I think you'd be surprised how many Spanish people have Russian names.

That incident was from 15 years ago (Before E-Verify was enforced) and Walmart didn't hire those people, a 3rd party contractor did.

I stand by my post that Small Businesses employ the vast, vast majority of illegals. Now every large Corp in the US must use E-Verify
Restaurant dishwashing/prep staff are about to get got

Welfare, yes. I don't understand how it could even be possible to apply for and receive welfare if you're not a citizen.

Taking away emergency rooms from anybody is just inhumane and bordering on evil. Regardless of how you feel about illegal immigrants, take a second and imagine turning a dying little kid away from a hospital just to prove a point. That's sick. Nobody should die on the streets because they were refused treatment in the United States, we're better than that.
I'm not saying that I support it. I'm saying it would be effective.
