The Democrats are so split as a party though. The progressives might take their ball and go home if a gay and/or woman isn’t on the ticket. That wing of the party has too much sway, but they are too dumb to realize that winning an election is about appealing to the moderates and swing voters.

I personally like Buttigieg, but obviously him being gay isn’t good for the numbers. He has like zero percent support from African American voters.

But yea, if/when Newsom hits the field I think it's an obvious walk in the park against Vance or whatever dude they throw up there. People are beyond tired of maga already and it's only been a year. That's not how you win.

I think you've got that twisted. Most moderate democrats are fine with Newsom, he's a classic neoliberal. It's the hardcore progressives who hate him for still bowing to big businesses and the conservatives who hate him because fox has been teaching their bloc to hate him ever since he won the governorship.

Blue voters in the south tend to favor establishment neoliberals over progressives. Bernie did fine in the rust belt but wasn't really appealing to the southeast.

A strict constitutionalist veteran like Kelly is probably what the country needs more than anything right now, but he doesn't look a 1980s high school movie villain that every girl wants.

Plenty of "swing voters" vote on straight up feels. If they felt economic hardship under a Republican administration, they vote for change. If a Democratic administration stabilizes the economy and halts a slide into recession, that wasn't good enough and they vote for change.

People are sick of MAGA but I don't know if Newsom is the one that will pull the swing state votes.

California is cool and all, but it has plenty of examples for anyone to point to and say "you want this for the country? Look how bad its working for CA."
