Anyone unemployed ?

Do you know how much your line cooks/kitchen supervisors/Chefs make?
One of the sous chefs told me he made over $60 an hour when its holiday time/pay even though hes salaried. Cook 5's make a little over $20. I work in one of hotels on the west side of the Big Island.

Fuck man I need to move out there. I have family in Waimea. If I wasnt stuck here Id move out there in a minute. I think that salaried Sous Chef is bullshitting you though. I have friends that are Sous Chefs in Vegas and LA at some of the top restaurants in the US and they dont make near that.

Work at a great job for two years, then company laid off a bunch of people, including myself. Was on unemployment for like 7-8 months. I signed up for Unemployment, this was back in like 2007 right around when the financial shit started hitting the fan. Unemployment at that time was capped off at 6 months. Now it lasts until infinite I believe.

First month was great it was like a really long vacation. Got well rested, After a month I started looking for work. Had a few prospects but all of the good ones required me to move to SF because a 2 hour commute everyday was not happening and the pay didn't supplement the rent increase. Just trucked along spent like 3-5 hours every day looking for jobs, sending out resumes. In the mean time I ran for like a 8-10 miles every day and got in really good shape. I got interviews here and there but nothing panned out. My friend offered me a position at his company but the hours were really bad and the pay was significantly lower than what I was used to making. After the 6th month my Unemployment stopped working and I had to dip into my savings. After the 8th month I sucked it up and took the position my friend had offered to me.

One of my friends was unemployed about a year after I was and this was after Obama added all those extensions to Unemployment benefits. He got himself fired at some retail job, I think he worked there for a whopping 5 months. Then moved to Socal and went to school full time while collecting Unemployment. If I had the chance I would have done what he did.

no not yet, when i marry oprah i plan on being unemployed

Do not feel bad about getting unemployment! It's there for you to use, use it! I've been out of work for three months. I have a wife who also lost her job and a kid. I have a house payment and food to buy, I didn't care about collecting unemployment. It is not welfare! You've worked all those years and your employer has paid into the unemployment insurance program so it's there when/if you lose your job.

I repeat, DO NOT FEEL LIKE A BUM FOR GETTING IT!

As far as the working at Walmart thing, I applied and they wanted to pay me $9 an hour. That was far less than what I was making before, less than unemployment paid me a week, and not enough to support my family. It wouldn't have been worth my time to work there.

This exactly. Unemployment is YOUR money. It's completely different from welfare. This is money that you've earned throughout your time as an employee and it's there to keep you on your feet until you get your next job.
