no, he's incredibly intelligent. He worked for Lockheed Martin, programming the guidance systems for the missiles on Navy ships for a few years but only made around 80k doing that.

Now he's in charge of one of the federal reserve websites and makes much much more. The website is super simplistic. I could probably do it myself. So, he worked himself into a position where he does far less work and makes far more money. Smart guy.

yeah, I outsource all of my work on Odesk or Freelancer. I've never needed anything too complex though.

Not surprised. The way he flipped out I can tell right off the bat he's either creating half assed python and upset that I implied he wasn't dedicated to it, or an actual developer who puts together the kind of crap code I have to make my system work around.

Probably flips out and acts like a spaz around the forums too
 
i think it was more for the 45 threads he created per day, than his particular reaction in this thread.

just my two cents as a former mod.
 
he was on a short leash and had a ton of former accounts. he told me he wanted a chance to fly right and not just get insta-banned. he got his chance and started flaming and trolling in his parking garage thread.
 
I was gonna learn how to code, ie- go to Uni to do computer science, or something. However I realised after doing work experience that I wasn't even really that interested, and wasn't any good... I think I'll be happier doing history, that suits me more.
 
jesus christ, even reading this thread is boring me. i'm glad that there are people who enjoy this stuff, because i'd never do it.

Those people do 2 things to the industry.
1. They do the work dirt cheap thus lessening the value of programmers in general.
2. They actually charge clients to do the crap work. The clients then have to pay someone else to fix it. Thus learning the lesson that you get what you pay for and good programming cost about as much as bad programming once you factor in paying for it twice.

That's the sad state of the world in which we live, my man. In every industry. Nowadays anyone with a SM57 and Fruity Loops is a "producer" and "engineer." Anyone with a camera phone is a "director" on youtube or a "photographer."

My B.S. was in computer science.

Some things were fun, and I use it all the time today, but working in it bored me to tears.

Took an EMT 1 course my senior year and loved it, so I got a paramedic license, like it more, 9 years later back to school to be a provider.

Just more satisfying, at least for me.
Coding just bores me, but I do enjoy the hardware side of things, and diagnosing/repairing electronics so it was not a total waste, and the skills I learned help me to this day.
 
Also, whoever brought back TS should be banned
 
Very cool thread and great video. It actually made me want to sign up here. Well, there are a lot of good threads here but this one caused me to take the plunge.

Ive tried on numerous times to learn to code. I get about 50% done with a tutorial, I lose sight of the goals I set, and then I quit. Then I slowly forget most of it.

This was very inspiring for me to watch.

this is the truth. I've had so many people come to me asking for advice on how to become a programmer and make money doing it.

people tend to get bored of it because they're too good at it, or horrible at it(mostly the case). Sometimes you got to be able to think about several things at once in your head and juggle the variables. The average joe cant do these things very well, because if they could, coding would be easy money.
 
For me it can often be very tough to come home after 8+ hours at work, traffic, etc...then hop on another computer and start dicking around trying to learn something.

Thankfully, I just got a new job in our technology department. This should help a little. There is so much downtime I can easily hop on Codeacademy and mess around.

That's what I meant. Fiverr has some people doing it cheap as well, but I hear it's subpar work.

I'm doing this work for local businesses. Some of these people still use AOL email addresses. :icon_chee
