Anyone know why the great Mark Schultz only had one mma fight?

He did it a couple months after his brother was killed. He was in a bad mind state and could probably have used the cash. He was a coach at the time and that was a safer and more lucrative career. He tells a different story everytime though. He obviously has some brain damage and is also a total fucking nutcase. Sad story.
my old high school wrestling coach always said you have to be a bit insane to be a great wrestler cause no sane person would put their body through the work outs it takes to become truly great

The movie was all over the map. Schultz did it for a payday. Wrestlers were getting mad money for MMA at that point. Schultz was an odd weight, right in the middle, lots of competition. Cael Sanderson was in the same boat. They could have been great or they were prey.
the netflix documentary team foxcatcher tells the story much better

he's mainly upset that it insinuated he did some gay shit with DuPont.
that plus him and dave were never at team foxcatcher at the same time and i believe its was atleast 5 years between mark leaving and dave joining the team

Probably too much bad influence with the whole DuPont saga it seemed. A lot of talented wrestlers at that time trying to make the transition but I think a lot of them needed the money more than they needed to learn Arm Bars, D'arce chokes, Kimura's and just being well rounded!

Taken from an interview Schultz did for the May 2000 issue of Grappling;

"Q: Would you like to fight in the UFC or another mixed martial arts competition again?

A: Maybe. It depends on a lot of things. I'm having trouble with my lower back and it's limiting my ability to condition and like you said, it's your best move. I'm 39 now and I don't know if my body will allow me to train the way I once did."

Whoever referred to Schultz' having back issues earlier in the thread may have been onto something.
