Food & Drink Anyone here done AA meetings or the like?

There's no religious aspect at the meetings I will attend.
My cousin had a lot of trouble finding the right meeting for that and one other reason, a bunch of them were culty.

Something like stop talking to people who drink, these are the new people if your life and so on. In one group, they all had the same tattoo and it was basically expected if you were to attend regularly. Maybe some people need that but it wasn't for him and he said it made him think of scientology as far as getting rid of people in your life not involved.

On the plus side, he did find the right fit eventually and it's made his life much better. He needed a safe space and some support from people going through the same things, that's all it took.

I wish you the best and don't give up. You'll find the right way, it may be something other than AA, if you want it.

AAA only. AA are for the real battery junkies since those are about twice the size(physically and when it comes to capacity).

There the cunts!!! It's a sign of good manners to turn up with bags, drinks and the number of a good escort agency....... Bunch of low lifes sitting in a circle moaning.....
Yeah, also: no-one likes a quitter!!!

I’m with you sherbro … I know some relatives that going to AA helped them … other not very much… it very depends if your a functional alcoholic too.

I bought a $250 bottle of Bourbon and drank it in one evening like it was cheep booze. My wife told me I had a drinking problem and I got mad at her. I knew the next morning I had to do something.
As for me I only drink cheap packs of 4% beers on weekend. My go to is to never drink during the week.

Yes. But they aren’t for me. Most groups I’ve been too are 2 types of people.

Newbs who are trying to quit or court mandates that go for maybe a month or two. And then you have lifers. All they talk about is AA and all they do is AA meetings and book work.
But if it saves them then awesome !

Mr Inbetween - excellent oz tv show
Aah, yeah. That's been sitting in my downloads directory for years. So much to watch, so little time.

Australian show, but recommended to me by a British/American chick. Go figure.

My advice is take it serious and stop. No matter what find psychological tricks to not drink another day and than another. Untill you are so sober you don't wanna drink anymore. I am off the smoke, 4th day, I did taper of the nicotine trough light vape liquid. 7+ years of smoking. Feeling fine. Was a bit agressive at first. Noone's goona make fun of you, we lost neughbours / family members to alcohol. Alcohol ain't no joke, be bigger than it. No sunstances are a joke. I wanna hear you do it.

True, it’s worth moving up your list.

Aren't you a French Canadian in their 50's? How do you even distinguish if you're an alcoholic? Just assumed you all were born with a 0.12 blood alcohol level

Fvck no those places are depressing but people like going to the meetings, and has helped some.
It’s more like a cult they tell you do things and ( for some I’ve seen it ) they are miserable in real life but go back to normal if they resume drinking. I had a good friend that progressed to a ( Im better then everyone ) mentality eventually and I could read his posts on FB , I was like what the hell happened to this guy ? Eventually he started drinking again and became his normal self .

If one really wants to stop anything theyll do it themselves, a major part of it is also diet some imbalances in nutrition deficiencies so unhealthy ppl crave more things bc there nervous system is out of whack .

When one needs to be instructed to how to live their lives because they have a vice that is problematic for them it’s another story, you aren’t in control really and are committed to an agenda bc of a group, it’s not really sincere .

Quitting smoking for me was easy in general but every so often, even after having quit for years, I get an intense desire for nicotine.

Also, I barely drink out of no real desire to do it ( every few months I'll have a drink or two at a restaurant when the mood strikes me) and I constantly get asked about it. Go out with people who don't know me well and don't order a drink " how long have you been sober?" is what I get.

The other interesting part is when I tell them that I'm not alcoholic who quit drinking, my not drinking then makes them uncomfortable.

just get some gaba and nac supplements
It’s kind of funny most with addictions will totally ignore metabolic functions and just seek help from others when they should help their bodies first , not just those supplements there’s several natural health products you can take instead of relying on other ppl , internal health is necessary .

Most would rather sit with random strangers instead of go to a gym and improve themselves, the same amount of time you waste at AA you could actually be doing good by releasing dopamine , this article right here shows 60% of alcoholics go back to drinking as well when they quit for a year . Why not physically help yourself be less dependent on anything ? I don’t get it , idk ?
