This is true, but you have to admit they've given you an incredible value for over a decade at no charge.

The amount of video servers they need to run to shit cost a fortune and there's really only 2 good ways to pay for that. Show ads or charge the customers.

I'm cheap as shit and hate paying extra for things but I don't regret yt premium.

Eh if the money at least went to content creators I could justify it. But even the most chill creators have gone on a rant at least once about how little they get and how shitty youtube is to them. Even the huge channels with millions of subs need a Patreon or the like to really get paid.

Yes, it's worth it. I watch youtube 90% of the time I watch anything streaming though so it's definitely worth it to me.

I do watch more YouTube now days but I actually don't skip the ads to support the few content creators that I do watch

it's great, not sure I'd pay for it, my brother has it and I'm a "family" member.

I like that I can download and store offline content with ease. I can certainly rip the files from youtube, but much easier to let my children download as they please, and have it in the car/plane. I may consider getting it for my family and have the six remaining covered, there's a limit of family members, share it, and it's worth it. I'll probably get it for everyone else and write it off as an expense, I use a lot of it for research, and the ads are unacceptable.

youtube premium supports the creators as well, you get paid a portion from the sub fees.

Multiple apps allow you to play videos ad-free + turn the phone screen off while playing. If you aren't hurting for cash, I think YT premium is good.

I tried it for a while and it was decent, but I didn't like the way they did the "DVR" part of it very much. I would've preferred they just show me all my recordings in a list format sorted by Date recorded rather than having to scroll around to find them. But for your purposes it might be okay.

I can deal with skipping the ads. It's the content creators now taking time from the video to "thank today's sponsor", which is usually some company that is completely irrelevant to the video's topic.
