Anyone go from hardcore to casual fan?

me. i used to never miss an event. EVER. now there's so many events and fighter names that i don't recognize and fail to even slightly impress me that i just watch the fights i want to see now a days. kinda sad. i'll always support MMA and the fighters i love to watch though. just too many less than mediocre events for me to even want to keep up with

Hardcore fans don't give a shit if they're considered diehard or casual.

Do you make the rules on what is considered a diehard fan or something? I was just wondering what others thought.

Since graduating college and getting a job I am less informed than I was before but I am as big of a fan as ever.
I have been DVR-ing, checking the results and fast-forwarding thru prelims that I don't really care about and know are a decision... There's so many fights televised these days I just don't care to watch all of the decisions.

Personally, I agree with you about the weight classes. If that doesn't qualify the both of us as "diehards" in som purist douchebag's opinion, what do we care?

I no longer follow UFC/MMA like I used to. I still enjoy the sport, and I follow the champs, but I'm completely out of the loop regarding many up and coming contenders. I look at fight card results and many names I don't recognize at all. Used to be I knew something about everyone on the main card at least. I'm not bashing the sport or declaring it ruined by this or that...just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

Most casuals would not be on Sherdog?

I'm enjoying it more and more TBH, we are going through a phase where building the sport is resulting in lots of new guys, more cards (arguably 'watered down') all the time but the new stars and next generation is really starting to emerge.

Really good time to be a fan I think - there are still stacked cards too -167 is looking incredible and some amazing free fight nights, like UFN 26.

Although I still get pumped up for some of the fights, it's just impossible to catch up with everything. There is just too many weak events at odd times. I just do not understand why the UFC decide to air events on Wednesdays. Shouldn't they know that a lot of their viewers are either A) at work or B) at school? It's just very poor on FOX and Zuffa's part. For all the fanboys who claims they still watch every single fight and know every single fighter on the UFC roster's interest and personal lives, I assume you guys must be unemployed since it's just impossible to catch up with everything.

I like the UFC a lot more now. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as pride when that was around. The quality of fighters in the UFC is way better now than those days. I never got into guys like Hughes, Sylvia and a lot of the old guard.

Ya....I could say that I'm not as hardcore as I used to be. But then again, I was a guy who enjoyed Pride, Strikeforce etc. I think that there is a lot of benefit to the UFC having a monopoly in the sport. But I also think there is a downside. The Henderson/Pettis card was one of the best of the year but I still believe with the talent pool the UFC has they should be able to have better cards than they have had. At this point I'm sure somebody will mention the injuries that cause cards to change but I still think that's a lame excuse for some of the lacklustre cards they have had. Just my opinion.

I'm in the same boat. I can't keep up like I use to, and don't get anxious for events like I use to. I remember thinking I'd never get tired of as much MMA as I could watch but that's completely changed.
I'll never miss a Cerrone fight however.

I don't follow MMA as closely as some do because it's not my favorite sport. I do appreciate those that inform me on anything I missed or something I might not know about.

Went through a mourning phase when GSP got hurt, Penn went MIA, and I realized Jones was gonna keep running through everybody. I think I'm over that phase of MMA fandom, however. Now I just root for interesting fights. Also I have a lot less time than I used to. But the flame is still burning, still burning.

Only slightly. I'm still a very very hardcore fan. But I miss Bellator cards every once in a while. And don't watch AXS TV much anymore. But I will record the big events and watch them intermittently just to catch up on up and coming guys not in the UFC.

Still watch every prelim of every UFC card though.

Same thing happened here. I used to watch every single fight I could; it's been since the fox deal that I've toned down. I don't think it's the sport getting worse, I just think it's the fact that there's practically two cards a week now. You look at the NFL, there's 17 weeks of games (not counting pre and postseason), with months off in between. That leaves me just waiting and waiting for football season after it's been gone for 3 or 4 months. With MMA, I don't get that excitement for cards because they're on every week.

Good point, you never have a chance to miss it, there's always a fight going on and it just feels saturated. I kind of miss the events that only happen once a month or so.

Used to be a hardcore fan, even trained and did some jiu jitsu, then I got to college and ran out of time for it.

I recently started back in after anthony pettis won the title. I saw everyone hyping Glover Texiara and thought, "hey I know that guy, he's the underground guy I always saw on fight finder as beating Sokoudjou when sok was hyped up!"

How are you not going to remember edimilson souza's michael page-esque ufc debut?

how can you not remember the hyped batman gassing out hard?

how can you not remember martins/martinez both rocyking each other hard.

zeferino/silverio sucked

spencer/villefort was a solid war.

I have no clue who you're even talking about there.

Not as hardcore as I used to be because I don't have the time. I work full time and am going back to school. There are only so many hours in the day.

All the legends are leaving or are about to leave. Wand, Shogun, Silva, Machida will be gone within the next 5 years prob. It's sad.

I'm still a hardcore fan but I don't order every ppv like I used to..there's too many watered down cards

Plenty? Alright man but I don't see people talking about fighters I know nothing about very often on here so I don't see where youre getting your information.
I really don't subscribe to the philosophy that fighters are better than 5 years ago either but of course the UFC still puts on some great events.

You don't check the website too much then. I don't have much time to watch the smaller organizations so I generally stick to the UFC events and prospects that debuted recently that have had a little discussion on here recently include Ivan Jorge, Brandon Thatch, Ali Baugatinov, "Capone" Krylov(LOL), Jose Maria, etc.

I subscribe to the idea that the average UFC fighter is significantly better than what the average fighter was 5 years ago. A prime Wand, Liddell, Hughes, Penn, Sakurai, Igor, Mirko, Gomi, etc. would still be a contender and potentially would hold the belt at sometime in todays MMA but there are guys outside the top 20 that would be a lot for a top 10 guy of the past to handle.

Karo was in line for a title shot in the historically strong UFC WW division. Joe Riggs got a title shot(well was supposed to). Guys in the WW outside the top 20 today- Gunnar, Erik Silva, John Hathaway, Brandon Thatch, Gyu Lim, etc. would work either of those guys.
