Anyone go from hardcore to casual fan?

ya I use 2 watch facebook fights and all the prelims. Now I just watch the big fights

Same thing happened here. I used to watch every single fight I could; it's been since the fox deal that I've toned down. I don't think it's the sport getting worse, I just think it's the fact that there's practically two cards a week now. You look at the NFL, there's 17 weeks of games (not counting pre and postseason), with months off in between. That leaves me just waiting and waiting for football season after it's been gone for 3 or 4 months. With MMA, I don't get that excitement for cards because they're on every week.

Yep. I got overwhelmed with content and I don't have any cable access. I still buy stacked pay-per-view cards, but there is getting to be less and less of those. They spread the UFC out more, and that's fine. I'm still a fan and they probably have more fans, I'm just not as hardcore anymore.

depends on if my fave fighters lose. im all like "fuck mma" whenever pat barry loses for example.

Bullshit. There are plenty that can. I usually recognize 90-95% of the fight cards. Only recent card that I had trouble was UFC 163 with the undercard Brazilian fighters because it was heavy on Brazillian prospects from TUF Brazil and I don't watch TUF(the exhibition fights don't do much for me)

There is enough chatter on here that if you watch the cards and you check into Sherdog on a couple time a week basis, you will know more than enough about upcoming new prospects/TUF guys that are debuting on cards.

Its tough to know all the fighters with how large the roster is now but the UFC puts on good events. The reason people think the cards are watered down are because their isn't as much name recognition. Cards aren't watered down. the quality of the avg fighter today is leaps and bounds what it was 5 years ago.

Plenty? Alright man but I don't see people talking about fighters I know nothing about very often on here so I don't see where youre getting your information.
I really don't subscribe to the philosophy that fighters are better than 5 years ago either but of course the UFC still puts on some great events.

The most hardcore fan isn't going to remember some of these prelim fighters on the smaller shows, like the last one.

How are you not going to remember edimilson souza's michael page-esque ufc debut?

how can you not remember the hyped batman gassing out hard?

how can you not remember martins/martinez both rocking each other hard.

zeferino/silverio sucked

spencer/villefort was a solid war.

I did. Been watching since 03 hardcore but I'm a casual now.

yes but not because mma/ufc is getting worse, it's just that I have other things to do right now and many times I'm too tired from work to watch it 'til late.

I should have wrote 'recognize' instead of remember. I didn't see the prelims, and you can hype up a bunch of C class fighters all you want, sure I guess one guy might become a contender but I just don't care until they fight another decent opponent. I wouldn't watch unless I was gambling. It was a Jungle Fight prelim, somehow I doubt you watched those shows.

I still watch almost everything else + boxing and some other sports. There is only so much time in a day.

Me when Sonnen choked Shogun, that was the most depressing way Shogun could have lost that, he didn't even get to do anything dammit!

Between having too many watered down ppv's and Anderson Silva and JDS losing their titles, I've lost some interest in the sport, too.

And sometimes it's just too difficult and time consuming to try and follow all of their events.

Jeez some of you guys are illiterate and silly.

TS explicitly said he isn't complaining- just making a personal observation. Also, the 'once hardcore always hardcore' mantra isn't very honest. Anyone who says their interest in something stays consistent for their entire lives is failing to reflect.

TS- the amount of interest I have shown the sport has also diminished somewhat, but that may be at least partially a time thing. Life can throw a lot at you and it isn't always possible to give this sort of thing that much time (work, studies, relationships etc are more important to me than any sport). I'm 100% OK with that too.

are you fucked in the head?

2 title fights

two guys at mw who are on 5 fight win streaks

two tpo 10 guys at 155, both undefeated in the ufc.

yes, what a shitty fight. give me tito ortiz/forrest griffin as a main event.

Let me explain to you what the term "stacked" means to people that are fucking retarded. "Stacked" is a card with badass fights top to bottom. Reference Pride GPs for an example.

"Stacked" is not any "fight" that is not shitty. "Stacked" is not any card that isn't shitty. You do know that cards can be neither stacked nor shitty, right? It isn't one or the other you fucking clown.

And since you didn't answer the question, I assume the answer is "yes." You are a new fan and don't know what the term stacked means, but I forgive you. Move along.

It's called getting older, trust, I know what you mean.

I tend to follow only certain weight classes, I think a lot of other fans are in this boat, some weight classes just don't interest me. The classes I follow are:

welterweight
middleweight
light heavyweight
heavyweight

I would say I was a diehard fan for those classes but the other classes I am more of a causal fan. Do you guys believe you need to be a die hard fan of every weight class to be considered diehard overall?

I hear you. I'm sure there's some kind of reference about only getting a semi these days, but that seems inappropriate.

In the olden days, gay references were completely appropriate and acceptable.

Hardcore fans don't give a shit if they're considered diehard or casual.

I remember days where I would just spend all day just re-watching old Pride events, other fights, reading interviews and books, and posting on forums. Obviously that wasn't really sustainable and I reached a point where I didn't even watch MMA for almost over a year.
