He was supposed to be the next major figure at MW. Had big star power in his fight against Romero, great social media game, and then it seemed like he never recovered from the Izzy loss.

Nate Diaz has to be up there. Inexplicably became one of the biggest stars in the sport in his early 30s after twenty-something fights in the UFC, and used his newfound leverage and bargaining power to fight five times in the next six years. Really striking while the iron was hot, so to speak

Sorry, but i never understood the Costa and Romero hype. Both were absolutely terrible. The fact that they fought for the title just shows how bad MW was in Adesanya’s reign…

Costa probably realizes his hype train has deflated and he doesn't have what it takes to go on a title run, so milking the last bit of sports fame he can get. Really bizarre trajectory after the Izzy fight.

I think Costa did well given his skills and ability.

Great power, average striking, decent grappling, poor cardio, not the best fight IQ.

Hilarious, good troll, good looking dude so he got eyeballs on his fights.

This thread is about fumbling their career..

Nate made ~$15 million on his two fights against McGregor, then against Pettis, Masvidal, Edwards, and Ferguson, he still had by far the biggest paydays of his career, not even winning, as a 35 yo non-title contender, while not having to cut weight to make 170lbs.

I’d say he made out pretty well.

I don't see how Conor and Jon aren't numbers 1 and 2.

Despite both their success(es), had they fought more often and acted more professionally, holy shit the money Conor could have earned, or records and streaks Jon really had run.

He left more money on the table than any guy i can think of though. He fought for 40/40 for years and suddenly through sheer chance he was making real money. If someone gets a huge raise and stops going to work you would correctly say they dropped the ball

Nate Diaz made more money in the 4 fights over three years post-McGregor than he did in the 21 fights over his nine years in the UFC pre-McGregor.. as a 35 yo non-title contender, not having to cut weight.

All after securing his fortune against McGregor.

And who knows how much he made outside of the UFC with promotional/sponsorship deals after the McGregor fights.

If you don’t see that as a massive success, I don’t know what to tell you. He could have never fought again after McGregor and he’d be fine.
