Anyone Else Having Trouble Wrapping Their Heads Around Miocic At Champ?

It's the HW division. I don't even pay attention to who is the champ is. The longest reigns are due to injuries.

He was you just didnt notice. He had the crisp boxing wrestling and foot work then. He just refined his game now. Gonzaga was not winning he got the shit beat out him lol.

One simply does not "beat the shit out of Gonzaga" without Gabe getting brutally KO"d or going into the fetal position. While Miocic clearly has demonstrated power since that, there is no way any way to give credit to him for the Gonzaga performance, especially when it was a decision victory.

It's almost like you believe that fighters never improve over time or something?

Stipe had all the tools, just took him some time to put it all together. Once he saw how well he did against top dog jds his confidence soared.

I actually thought he should've gotten the nod against JDS by the slimmest of margins. That was a damn good fight.

I have it 49-46 dos santos with Stipe winning round 2. Which rounds do you think stipe won?

Ya I see it like I see lawler as champ ... It's very temporary .
There's a few better guys in the division and they'll lose their belts. Good for them for reaching their all time goal and it's an amazing thing but neither will last long.
Lawler is like the second longest reigning champ.. Derrrrp

I recall his hype prior to his debut, since he was a Gold-Glove boxer, college wrestler, and potential professional baseball player. He looked really poor against Joey Beltran in his debut, followed up by getting his ass-kicked and having nothing for Shane Del Rosario(RIP) prior to landing a takedown, and getting KO'd by Stefan Struve, who was commonly brutalized by any ranked opponent. Even in Miocic's "coming out" against Roy Nelson, Miocic didn't seem like a killer, as he basically was the only Nelson opponent to completely run away at points in the fight. Afterwards, Miocic was also the only opponent to not completely obliterate Gonzaga in victory. At best, Miocic was a decent HW with a questionable finishing instinct. Yet, a few years later, he's HW champion.
My guess, ZERO title defenses. You won't have to worry about this question for long. The real question: why is heavyweight so fucking terrible?

I used to think that the champ was head and shoulders above the rest of his division. Now it just seems like anyone of say 4-5 fighters in each division could be champ given the chance and the right climate.

He has no swag or charisma whatsoever, is awkward as f**k on the mic and just got lucky against Werdum. Overeem will take the belt from him like taking candy from a baby and hopefully he gets matched up with Velasquez and Rothwell soon as well. Happily we are going to be hearing and seeing a lot less of Mr Miocic quite soon.

Fucking way she goes.

These guys get it

Miocic is good, but he's never really impressed me or done much for me. Pity Werdum was silly enough to run at him like that, or else we might not be having this conversation.

Will you still shit on him if he destroys Overeem?

Not surprised in the lest after seeing Werdum hand Stipe his chin along with his belt...

Can't recall without watching it again. I gave him 3 with a couple being very close rounds. I thought he was more active and landed the better shots. I should rewatch it since I remember it being enjoyable.

I honestly just watched it again and cannot see 3 rounds to stipe.

He lost round 1 and was out struck and missed like 10 takedowns.
He won round two via a takedown against the cage.
He lost round three due to getting outstruck and dropped.
He lost a round 4 by getting outstruck and looking more gassed and getting taken down I believe.
He lost a close round 5 by getting outstruck but looked to have caught a second wind.
