Anyone else getting the Cybertruck?

I'm going to guess absurd reliability issues out the ying yang when people start taking these into real life.

<36>

This thing going to be a disaster.

@Mangar "Huh? All of their cars besides the Cyberfail (as well as all cars on the road) use rounded aesthetic rounded edges. What are you even talking about?"

no other car is made of ultra hard cold rolled stainless steel, you think this car just looks different for the sake of looking different?

So can my Tacoma, and I don't have to be embarrassed doing it sir.
nobody is going to be embarrassed riding this thing, can you get your hands on one is the bigger question.

I wouldn't drive that thing if you paid me to be honest... nevermind paying to dive it sir.
That thing is butt ugly, and there's no way anyone believes the claims they're making about it.

After having witnessed several times Teslas not unlocking because of electrical problems and well no lock in the door I gladly avoid any of that stuff.

Possible the ugliest thing ever created by the hand of man and why on earth would you want a pickup truck which does 0-60 in 2.6 seconds? you try to drive that on a track or just a road with corners and you better have some kind of metal ID as not even your bones will be recovered from the fire.
Especially in the US were you cant even use the speed for anything. But thats the one thing electric cars are good at so they market the hell out of it. They did it with their someday releasing truck and it was the most dishonest stupid marketing I have ever seen. Tesla fanboys all ate it up.

It doesn't need to be made out of ultra hard cold rolled stainless steel. Being bullet proof isn't a feature anyone asked for or desired other than Elon himself. They can stamp out parts using thinner stainless steel or simply use regular mild steel or aluminum like their other cars.

yes and many dont need to buy it either. It's a TRUCK, and arguably the toughest truck ever made, hence the usage of TOUGH materials. Being bullet proof is just an attribute of having tough materials.

So you think the market of folks who need a durable truck for work and those who will drop 100k on this are the same? Lemme know how many cybertrucks you see at construction sites lol

there's already 2 million preorders, rollout is going to take years to fulfill. This truck may not appeal to the underpaid journeymen, but I'm sure there are many contractors, who barely haul stuff, would love to show up to the client in a cybertruck. Most journeyment construction workers would be quite happy if they could roll up in one of these, and unfortunately it's out of their price bracket.

btw, the top model is 100K, the bottom version is 60K before incentives, which drop it down to 48K

that thing is about as "truck" as a Jeep Gladiator, though it does have decent payload (2500lbs) and towing capacity. But the design of the bed and the whole vehicle being a unibody design makes it very un truck like.

Why would a vocational workers be happy with this truck, when it is a poor substitute for a real pickup?

There are a lot of pickups that cost way more than the base Cybertruck.

Preorders are a very poor measure of demand given it's just a small reservation fee.

Sounds like they don't need a bullet proof truck then. As someone else told you, the bullet proof aspect and need for toughness is not a feature the market demanded. It's just a marketing gambit.

Yes, and when does that bottom version arrive again?

It’s hideous for my taste. But if someone likes it, good for them. Not sure why you would need such a bullet proof vehicle. Tesla could own the pick up market if they just took the tech and put it into a regular looking pickup, even with the Tesla contours.

because any truck would do? In my previous life, I was an actual construction worker, I do have a contractors license, I have built homes...... why the hell not? this thing can haul, it is more than ford tough, it has a rolling protective cover that is strong and intuitive. Tell me what a construction worker/contractor is going to haul if you dont think this will cut it.

being bullet proof is an attribute rather than the goal. It's built tough from the ground up, the tires are going to be fairly puncture resistant, the body is dent/scratch resistant, even the bed is like that out of the factory. It probably doesn't even cost much more, since they did away with paint in favor of a corrosion resistant exoskeleton.

I don't get the advantage of using materials so heavy and rigid.

It will be interesting to see the crash tests and actual accidents data for this thing. Looks like a nightmare for any pedestrians and other vehicles hit by it, with all the hard angles, weight and rigidity. The lack of deformation may make it dangerous for driver and occupants too.
