Anyone else feel like Marvel deciding to make everything a comedy is just lazy writing?

It's the consequence of Joss Whedon's cultural influence. Same shit hurt plenty of tv shows like Supernatural.

There really isn't a lot to do with the 4 act structure to make the movie stand out as better than others.

Jokes landing and soundtrack helps a lot. Jokes in particular because it fills a void in the industry.

Comedy movies have been dead for a long time now. It's not you getting old.

2000-2010 was the last decade of peak comedy movie era. They were the "blockbusters" of the era.
Step Brothers, Hangover, SuperBad, knocked up, wedding crashers, Hot Fuzz, Scary Movie, School of rock, White Chicks, Anchorman, Shuan of the dead, Tropic thunder... the list is insane.

2010-15 Had some big comedies... but you can see the decline.

2015-2025: The void. Animated kids films and marvel movies.

Not saying they're all shit... but Comedy movies just stopped being a big thing. Marvel saw it and went "yoink".

It's more of an art and skill to successfully produce cinema that is more dark or serious yet captivating enough to catch people's attention. This new marvel stuff is just so corny to me, seems like they are just looking for easy money and not trying to make any actual great pieces of work

Blame the first two Thor movies, which were serious and (by MCU standards) flopped. And Guardians of the Galaxy being a huge hit despite the group being unfamiliar even to comic fans. Guardians was a comedy through and through, and Marvel took notice.

After that, every single film had to be a comedy. Even Thor, the most serious, aloof character they had was suddenly a court jester, and it worked, the Thor sequels did well once he became a buffoon rather than a god.

The comedy ones are the ones that people liked and the drama ones flopped. Comedy directors also do action better than drama directors.

Who are these comedy directors you speak of, what are the films of theirs you have in mind, and what films from drama directors do you think their films outpace in the action department? Because I'm having a hard time making sense of this claim. What comedy directors have made better battle sequences than Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket or Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, or better shootouts than John Woo's The Killer or Michael Mann's Heat, or better large-scale set-pieces than James Cameron's Avatar or Christopher Nolan's Inception, or better fight scenes than Paul Greengrass' Bourne movies or Gareth Evans' Raid movies, etc.?

I think taking the criticism that they should have changed their formula at all was really stupid of them. Nearly every criticism of the marvel movies was just people smelling their own farts and being complete assholes who honestly don't know what they're talking about.

Those movies were inspiring mythologically rich and meaningful and hilarious.

And the comic books have endless story arcs to pull from, so it's not like there's any lack of really great ideas either.

They should continue to make those great movies and let all the people who mock just go off in the corner alone and smell farts together.

I think the main reason for this new modern movies is to put a shallow vibration at its peak (it doesn't matter if it's a comedy or drama or horror) and somehow convince people they are good movies so we can't recognize anymore what is actually good. Marvel of course belongs here, the peak for now is The Rings of Power.

The first Thor movie made $450m on a $150m budget how was that a flop?

The rings of power is even worse? And for the same reason that marvel is bad?

From what I've read Joss Whedon left mcu after age of ultron and that's about the time when all the movies and now shows became shit though? So is he really the main problem?

These are unrealistic movies about grown adults in costumes. There needs to be humor. But it needs to be balanced and nuanced. Movies like the last Thor and Deadpool vs Wolverine went too heavy on it. Thunderbolts was a perfect mix. Serious subject matter about isolation, mental illness and loneliness...but Red Guardian and great humorous banter amongst the team brought in the light. I thought Bale was too dark, in movies that had incredibly dark villains already. Batfleck had just the right amount. Dark and serious but some levity when needed.

It’s crazy to me that Marvel is literally spanning generations and I haven’t seen a single damn one but Thor: Ragnarok. That is, if you don’t count idly asking “what the fuck is going on here?” To a television rerun.

For the same reason considering how shallow they are, silly, a joke but it's actually even worse. Marvel movies are joke, like you said corny, but TRoP takes the cake (haven’t seen the second season).

I would love an R rated Punisher or Ghost Rider, I'm over all the campy Love and Thunder type silliness.

Not sure where you're getting your information, but a lot of the really good movies came after Age of Ultron.
Civil War
Dr Strange
GotG2
Homecoming
Ragnarok
Black Panther
Infinity War
End Game
Far From Home

Of those movies you mentioned the only ones I would say were really great would be civil war, Ragnarok and infinity war. The rest are just decent. And then you're also leaving out the absolute shit that was put out including movies and shows. How much shit was put out by Joss Whedon? Mostly every movie was at least decent

Current super hero movies suck. All of them. I tried watching the one with wolverine and Deadpool, because the hot librarian recommended it. God it was shit. My 15 year old son and me looked at each other about 35 minutes in and said we'd both rather go to bed so we did. Now the other movie she recommended tho. Peanut butter falcon. That was amazing
