Any advice for a new Mass Effect player.

I guess Im going to bang Miranda(dat ass), but I think Jack is still on the table.
So if you still want to romance Miranda, you can bang Jack without consequences. No threesome though.

I think I beat ME2.
Frankly was a bit of a letdown.
I got put on a shuttle and now we dying?
The Joker survivel scenario was just lame.
The part where you put your best fighters in the line of fire to win seemed clunky as fuck and I misinterpreted how my actions would kill my crew members.

What? Jack is a girl.?
That changes everything..
Guessing this is a joke because you were in the process of recruiting everyone and doing their loyalty mission.

Frankly was a bit of a letdown.

Was a letdown the first time I beat it too.
But just the first time.

No argument there.
In the last 2 years this video was uploaded about that segment. Check it out sometime.

So who survived & who died?

Neither, I figured I am playing a soldier class, and I'm romancing the blue girl Liara Ashley was expendable.
I only used Kaiden on a couple missions.
I don't really know what he is good at.
He is excellent at having headaches, that's pretty much it

I don't think it the biggest deal in the world, but even it was, does it nullify the previous 45-60 hours of goodness? The hate got out of a hand.
I never said it was a terrible game. But the ending ruined it for a lot of people in the same way Game of Thrones did. People got invested with these characters and this story over the course of three entire games, which makes it worse in a way.

Your choices go from mattering to not mattering. The previous game had some of the most consequential choices. Then in 3 nothing you do matters, your choices in the previous games don't have any visible effect except to add to a final score, none of your companions get a ending, and the game ignores the established rules of the world to throw in a shoehorned ending cinematic that someone at the top clearly thought was cool. And they throw in a crappy pick 1 of 3 ending, the exact same lazy crap Deus Ex did and got shit on for.

Guessing this is a joke
Obviously.
Sarcasm, especially shitty sarcasm doesn't always hit when the delivery is typed by someone who isn't a capable writer.
So who survived & who died?
Tali died first. I was getting progressively intoxicated while the mission was progressing and I'm honestly not sure who went after.
The damn game won't let me check my crew unless I try and seek them out on the Normandy to have a conversation.
I can't stand that shit(edit: flew to Illium to land so I could see the crew. Tali, Legion, and the dude on the far left of the squad selection screen). I have no missions so I can't see who is left in the roster.
I liked the game quite a bit, but there's a lot of QOL stuff that I really dislike.
I understand why you and others ITT revere the game.
For me, I don't have the memberberries to snack on while playing the game so it just doesn't hit that hard.
Last RPGs I have played are CB2077(post updates/fixes), Witcher 3, and BG3. This one just seemed a little rough.
I'm definitely going to jump into the third one and I'm excited to see what happens.

Man Tali dying is huge. I do wonder how some stuff will play out for you in the third game.

There's still a DLC to play in ME2 after finishing the main quest

I advised him against doing that on a 1st playthrough. It really isn't that great of a DLC.

The game told me I needed a squad member that had her skill set to lead the part of the distraction on the mission.

I wasn't pleased with the result.

Keep in mind that you have the option to replay the Suicide Mission to get a more desireable result by just reloading an old save.

I advised you to go into the finale blind because I wanted it to be your own mostly-unique 1st playthrough. You're feeling your own unique sense of loss like you did something wrong.

The first time I played through ME2 half of my team died, and I was pissed. All of my favorite squadmates got killed.

Didn't touch the game for 6 months, until I saw a title of a YouTube video - "ME2 All Squadmates Survive Suicide Mission." I literally said outloud 'Say Fuckin What?'

I didn't realize that all of the decisions throughout the entire game, not just in the finale, had an impact on who survived and who was killed. I thought planet scanning was boring so I made no upgrades to the ship (didn't realize they were significant because there were no ship-to-ship battles. And only half of my squadmates were loyal because I did that ReaperIFF way too early, so I began the suicide mission too early just to save my crew.

In my 2nd playthrough I saved everyone.
In my 3rd playthrough I saved everyone but 2 squadmates I don't like.

<haditcoming>
Jacob Taylor - "Going through the vents looks like suicide. I volunteer."
Shepard - "You got it, motherfucker."

Ironically I've played through ME2 at least twelve times and I had two casualties (I didn't want) on my team in my most recent playthrough.

I even did a speedrun of ME2 in which everybody dies, including you as Shepard, in the finale. The game can literally be beat in 8 hours.

Anyway you have the option to reload an old save and replay the finale, but I encourage you to stick with the results of your first time playing through the suicide mission... but I wouldn't be upset if you replayed it.

Just know if you waited too long to do the suicide mission after the crew was abducted, their fates have already been sealed and half or all of them die.
And squadmates without their loyalty missions complete are much tougher to keep them alive. Something usually gets them.

Any questions?

Tbh I think it ties nicely to the start of ME3

The level design is very weak with very little consequence with the result of the story.

If you do the DLC, Shepard is relieved of duty because the mass casualties of Batarians.

Otherwise, Shepard is relieved of duty because of working for/with Cerberus.

I believe the only difference is one VO line, and that's it. Not worth doing a 1.5-2 hour DLC.

Edit - Would like to add that DLC definitely isn't worth spending another 90-120 minutes in ME2 when he could dive into ME3 and figure out what happens next in the main story.

@Your Salad
I forgot to mention, while your credits & resources aren't transferred from the end of ME2 to the beginning of ME3, your Level does.

Make sure you're near the maximum level of 30 at the end of the game because you'll start ME3 at Level 30, and ME3's Level Cap is 60 so you'll be half the maximum power so the beginning of ME3 will feel like you have cheats on.

Same with ME1 to ME2. I took a level 60 character to ME2, but it took three playthroughs.

All of my teammates lived, but I put off attacking when my crew were abducted. Quite shocking really.

Man the way they react when you put it off makes you feel like a POS. "What took you so long!".
