Eugene Debs was a socialist, and ran for president under the Socialist Party. He ran for president multiple times, and received 6% of the popular vote in the 1912 Presidential Election.

The political establishment did not like Debs. Mr. Debs' crime? He was a pacifist, and he was very critical of the American government during WW1.

For his anti-war views, Debs was charged and convicted of sedition for the crime of opposing America's involvement in World War 1.

In 1918, Debs was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and was permanently disenfranchised for life. (ie: He forever lost the right to vote in elections.)

Its been a bizarre 10 plus years for leftist thought in the West. Trump really did a number on some people's intellectual integrity. Words, thoughts and tactics got turned around and people got whipped up by social media and popularity. There are a lot of core leftist values that were ignored or completely turned against itself.

I would love for the left to regain it's sanity and be a compelling force in political thought again but the last ten years it seems the left has been much more focused on a strange and stupid intolerance of almost everything. So many about faces on things that used to be core.

Non violence seems to have become violence

When dealing with friends and family this intolerance in the left has gotten to the point where it's almost impossible to talk without mentally navigating topics that are "off limits"...and you have to do this during Christmas dinner or new years or some other time when friends and family get together.

Most sane people left and right have been bothered by it but it's so well dressed in very dangerous words and labels that the easiest response is to ignore it. But when the intolerance manifests into a public assassination...now there is a problem everyone understands and it has very little to do with right/left...the vast majority of the West is not on board with public assassinations.

I watched them attack locals near the Wi Spa in L.A. who decided to hold a peaceful protest outside with signs. It was pure terrorism. They made Portland shop owners hang "I Support BLM" signs in their windows if they wanted to stay in business and not have their windows bashed in. I saw them personally come to my city, stage rocks and bricks in the alleys off Main Street, and show up to trash our town. Fortunately, real men stood up to them and bit the shit out of them. On that same day, ANTIFA trashed Santa Ana, Santa Monica, and Long Beach, where men didn't stand up.

We're watching them try and subvert the will of the people by ignoring Mamdani's clear victory in their mayoral primary for NY mayor by refusing to support him. Democrats are center right in a two-party political system. They are concerned with winning elections and serving their corporate donors.
