Wasn’t he a drunk former wrestler?

I know he was a college wrestler in his past, and was way smaller than Anthony, and Anthony refused to hurt him and instead almost lost the fight to him. Instead of shooting the man and securing his family's safety, he opted to grapple with this guy for a long period of time, long enough that he thought he might have to give up.

But if that was an ex-pro fighter with a knife? He'd have finished him immediately, apparently.
