Anime and Manga v39

Also anyone else read prison school? While it started to suck the end was garbage. Though I guess there will be an epilogue in the tankobon

From memory,
in the manga the kid's explosion wasn't enough to do it so the old guy ends up having to do it too. So what happens in the anime, does he come back and keep living with his family or something.
no after the pos blows it up the old guy legit sits on a piece of the asteriod and gouges out both of his eyes thats how it ends in the anime

That's how the self-destruct is activated.

Fuuuuuck. Vol 39? Damn bois, its been a long trip.

How yall doing?

I recently watched Spirted Away for the first time in yeeeeears. Still holds up, great film. Rewatched Mononoke too, still the goat Ghibli film imo.
Agreed. Watched some Ghibli movies at the theater this summer/fall. Spirited away was a beautiful film on the big screen

Anyone else read the newest Attack on Titan chapter? Dat Warhammer Titan.

I liked Kakyoin in Part 3 while the Ensemble setting of Part 4 was better crafted for me especially when they had to face Yoshikage Kira , If anything is the best character because he is tenacious and Sinister the fact that he wants to cause terror while hiding in plain sight is chilling.

So I decided to take a break from Berserk when the Sea God Arc Started ( Holy Shit was that 4 years ago ? ) Basically re-read from about Chapter 295 - and caught up to 352.

Story Flows so much better when you have so the chapters strung together.

Thoughts --

-The Sea God Arc wasn't bad but I feel that despite it's size Guts dispatched it pretty easily . Interesting the Naked Boy showed up . Shierke thinks he is the Avatar of the Fairy King, I think he has something to do with Casca and Guts .

-- Neat seeing another mini Arc about Guts as a youngster

-- Rickert bitch slapped Griffith . I feared for his life because the Kingdom is basically run by Griffith and his Apostles with the Main Commander a hot head.

-- I don't know what Griffiths end game is. He is basically a God Now no one is a threat to him except perhaps the Skull Knight and Guts in Berserk mode. Griffith is the Grand Deciever everyone sees the light of the Falcon but don't realize it is hiding the Darkness of Femto. Princess Charlotte and the young girl prophet are innocent and likable characters so I think they are in for tragic heartbreak when they learn of Griffiths true nature.

- Going Back to Rickert , it was interesting to see him escape with Erica thanks to help from Silat and one of the former Kushan Wizard/Mage. I was genuinely relieved to see them survive (for now) . The world of Berserk is full of Monsters and tragedy so it's good to see these characters manage to thrive , hopefully to can reunite with Guts because that is their best chance since the world outside of Falconia has been unleashed with Demons .

The Artwork produced by Miura for Elfhelm and Cascas dream sequence was visually stunning there isn't a better Mangaka than Miura .

- Any of you notice that once they delved into Casca's rape by Femto the Dream Monsters that attacked looked like Demon Penis. Re-read Chapter 351 it's pretty blunt on Miura's part.

I'm going to read the chapters that get released that finish the Dream sequence then I won't rid this Manga til it is either Finshed or hits Chapter 400 or 420 , whatever happens first

I'm trying to watch Gundam Unicorn and Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans while both are on demand on Spectrum. After one or two episodes, hard to get motivated to watch.

Happy New Year everybody! I'm about to embark on my yearly tally of everything I've read and thought I'd comment on a few series in particular that I started reading this last year.

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san - I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this supernatural ecchi harem/comedy series. It's got a lot of slice-of-life comedy bits to it and isn't all that original (with many punchlines revolving around the MC having boobs/crotch ending up in his face), but the artwork is exceptionally well drawn for this genre and the supernatural twist helps keep it interesting.
Goblin Slayer - This easily could have been one of those awful 2edge4me kind of series that focuses on gore/rape but once it gets rolling its a well done fantasy series. It's a more realistic (without any stat screens or level-ups) take on a DnD style fantasy world.
Knights & Magic - The reincarnation/another world trope has been in style the last year or two and a lot of them straight up suck. This one is actually a lot of fun instead of beeing dark-and-edgy and the innocent enthusiasm of the main character is endearing.
Gosu - Excellent martial-arts action webtoon. I've mentioned it a couple times but don't remember anybody else picking it up.
King Golf - This is a really well done sports series about a delinquent-turned-golfer. It's well paced, has some excellent story arcs, and the artwork is surprisingly good at conveying motion.
Trinity Wonder - This is here as one of the biggest disappointments of the year. It's by the authors of The Breaker. I understand and respect their desire to work on something different, but this just fell flat. It's colorful and has cool designs but the story and characters just aren't all that engaging.

Mangastream is so damn slow with the releases lately. Do you guys have better suggestions?

I couldn't get into it, it was too embarrassing/cringe for me (I remember giving up when one of the characters shit his pants in the computer lab when trying to record a fart sound). I always saw it in the popular series lists but it wasn't for me.

What was so bad about the ending? Was it rushed, unsatisfying, or just poorly written?

Combo of rushed and unsatisfying. I imagine popularity plunged when it got bad. But if I enjoy a series I'll generally stick with it even when it goes to shit.

Can't believe I got into anime at my age and stage of my life. It makes no sense, but I guess it's my one down time activity for myself. What anime you guys looking forward to in 2018?

Can't wait for...

Seven Deadly Sins Season 2 - Jan2018?
Gintama - Silver Soul Arc - Jan2018?
Boku no Hero Academia Season 3 - Apr2018?
Attack on Titan Season 3 - Jul2018?
One Punch Man Season 2 - GIVE US A DATE!!!!!

I do not see Golden Kamui listed on here. This does not please me.

Any good music themed animes lately? Kids on the slope, nodame cantible, and beck are my favorites of that genre. Surely there's been another music anime in the last couple of years?

Not music related per we, but Ballroom Youkosou is really solid.

So I just discovered that Syun Matsuena the Managaka that did History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi made another Manga , Tokiwa Kitareri. Seems to be set in the same world as Kenichi but it introduces magical and supernatural elements, which was to get the sense that Kenichi was on the cusp of. Anyways Matsuena's art is very noticeable and looks good and his Humour and Fan Service is about the same. A couple of Chapters in. I like it so far it's already complete at 120 Chapters so I'll probably binge it.

Don't get your hopes up too high. I tried it last year and didn't think much of it.
