Anime and Manga v33

I can read subtitles just fine. I probably watch more foreign films than hollywood films nowadays. I just personally can't stand japanese voice acting. Especially the obnoxious shouting and ear raping high pitched voices. If it's a serious like Gurren Lagann or jojo's bizarre adventure, where it's ridiculous and over the top than I actually prefer it though.

it's not a reading thing . i think it's a focus issue .

i had no problem with this back when i used to watch subbed versions exclusively.

after 4 years of watching dubbed versions , i'm seemingly unable to enjoy anime in japanese .

maybe it's the voice acting?

I'd say keep trying maybe you just got to get use to it again since you've been watching dubbed for so long lately

oh man I loved Mushishi, is Zoku Shou a continuation or something new set in the same universe?

In English it's released as Mushishi: The Next Passage or The Next Chapter. No idea whether either is a exact translation.

Aside from the subtitle and a new opening theme, it's the shame show, just more stories from the manga. As far as I know, Mushishi is about as faithful to its manga as anime can get, which seems to be a very good thing in this case.

Early this year there was a new special that was double the length of a normal episode called Mushishi: Hihamukage. This was maybe my favorite of all the Mushishi stories. At the end where there would be a preview of the next episode there was an ad for the new series. So far there have been 10 episodes of Zoku Shou, and another special I haven't gotten to yet which is apparently episode 11 and 12 of Zoku Shou, and a second season is going to air in a month or two.

On a side note, what did you think of Welcome to the NHK?

That series affected me more personally and deeply than any other anime and perhaps any other media, because I've struggled with (comparatively minor) agoraphobia, paranoia, and depression. I've never seen a better take on those issues, and the show also managed to be hilarious and uplifting despite the heavy themes.

thanks for this post. Never read the manga but I'm definitely going to be searching for these new episodes I haven't seen.

I'm obsessed with Welcome to the NHK. I'm not finished with the series yet still got a few more episodes. I loved it for the same reason you do. It just seemed to connect with me in ways that other shows/movies/animes have not. I have major issues with social anxiety and similar issues, so I felt I could easily relate to Satou.
The show really hits me in the feels but still makes me laugh real hard. I've been debating about picking up the book and reading it.

I'll add those to my watch list, thx

any combination of Comedy/Action/Horror/Sci-Fi for the most part

recently I've watched Attack on Titan/Fairy Tale/Welcome to the NHK, the only one I didn't care for was Fairy Tale

some of my favorite animes include: Akira/Shin Chan/Dragon Ball/Beserk

hope that helps

Just a general lists of recommendations, nevermind the ratings. I would also suggest checking out anime prior to 2008. Lots of shows gets produced there's a chance you missed a decent amount.

@CubicleGangster, attack on titan sucks bro. You minus will be watching garbage rot or lindsay lohan taking a dump.

Don't waste your time on that, watch Berserk instead.

I only said 2008 because that was around when I stopped watching anime. Was a big anime nerd before then. Thanks for links though gonna check them out.

I've already seen and read everything Berserk. Got the manga and anime in my room. I liked Attack on Titan, sue me.

Yes, don't waste your time on the most popular anime to come out in probably 10 years, because I personally don't like it.

How do y'all feel about recap films?

Are there any examples where you might as well skip a series and watch it's recap movie(s) instead?

What about examples of series that are perfect as is, and the recaps just don't quite pack the same punch?

Or even examples where both a series and a recap/condensed movie are of high quality and both worth watching depending on how you feel at the time? I haven't seen Macross Plus, but this seems to be the case as far as that OVA is concerned.

I'm going to watch the Madoka Magica films soon because I'm been wanting to rewatch the series, and the first movie is only about 20 mins shorter than the episodes it covers while the second film is actually a bit longer than those it covers. Therefore, the overall effect will be like marathoning the series with a few parts left out, a few new parts, and some new animation.

Also, what are some opinions on the recent NGE and Berserk movies? Are these must watch for any fan?

Links stopped working for some reason. I just fixed them.

Check out Eden of the East as well. I'll dive into my collection and see what else I've got that may interest you.

I keep skipping past that one on netflix, ill have to start watching

Gonna finnish NHK tonight, probably start a new series tonight as well

really enjoying Barakamon this season. reminds me kinda of Yotsuba&!.

Met a dude today who had the brand of sacrifice from berserk tattoed on the back if his neck. He's in the progress of getting the skull knight and zodd on his back.

Once in awhile I've often contemplated about getting a themed tattoo as well but always back down since that shit is permanent. I'd look foolish with a bunch of drawings in my back and chest at 70.

Pretty cool. Not many would recognize that stuff. Even people who read berserk.
I think he needs to stop with that though. No zodd, etc.

I think it's too late brah, he's already got skull knights head done lol. Shit looks incredible though. Whoever his artist is did a great job. It was a bit awkward when he shoed it to me though, taking his shirt off in the middle of campus and all. The dudes in good shape and is a good looking guy (no homo) so he can probably get away with it without having the social stigma attached with something like that, unlike if some neckbeard or really nerdy looking person did it.
