I think Morikawa got inspiration from a recent fight. It was Lucian Bute vs Librado Andrade 1 Bute was schooling Andrade for 11 rounds then in the 12 Bute got tired and Andrade caught him and knocked him down it should have been a count to 10 easily but halfway into the count the ref makes the excuse that Andrade was not in the neutral corner so he uses that to interrupt his count allowing Bute enough time to survive the round and win the cards in the scorecards, it was such obvious home cooking , Bute won a rematch by KO but the bad taste of his gift win from the Ref in the first fight still lingers for fight fans who remember it

UGH...I've heard of shit like that happening. I remember there was a bunch of REALLY corrupt shit going in the Olympics with a lot of judges having been given financial incentives or such things to favor boxers from certain countries.

BLah speak of Olympic boxing , the worst travesty , was when Roy Jones Jr was robbed it was in South Korea , he was facing a Korean boxer in the final he absolutely dominated and he still loses the decision , watching old film of that its clear that he dominated , felt bad for Roy he was just a kid then , the image of him crying in the ring after being robbed is heartbreaking

Some of the recent conversation made me think: what series/authors do you guys think are under-translated? There's a lot of good stuff out there and unfortunately not all of it gets the attention it deserves. Here's a couple that come to mind from stuff I've read recently.

Countach - This series is a full 28 volumes long. It is currently being worked on, but at the rate it's been translated so far it'll take more than a decade to be finished (that's not an exaggeration, I did the math). It's unfortunate because there aren't very many good car related manga, and so far this one has been really good.

Just about everything by Kubo Mitsurou. Not a single one of her series has been completely scanlated despite all of them having an 8/10 or better rating.
Again!! - It's actively being worked on, but releases are sporadic and more than four volumes behind
Moteki - Only the first of the 4.5 volumes has been translated.
Tokkyuu!! - This is a 20 volume series and only two have been completed. It's been well over a year since any releases. Sadly, the current chapters end right before the climax of the current plotline.
337 Byooshi!! - While not my favorite of hers, work was stopped after eight of the ten volumes had been finished. You'd think if that much would be completed it would at least be finished.

I really wish I had the skills to help out on this kind of thing, but I don't know a lick of japanese, I'm too poor to try and secure RAWs, and don't have the software/skills to clean images.

I'll be honest, I'm not the best manga guy in the world as outside of "The Big 3" and Ippo I don't read much.

I'm still waiting for George Morikawa to make an actual technical/old school style fighter like Floyd Mayweather or Bernard Hopkins that actually doesn't rely on his chin, punching power or blinding speed, just pure technicality. Then again that might be too hard because it is not gimmicky enough. And i'm getting the urge to kill Morikawa again with some of his depictions of boxing. I cannot remember how many times i cringed at the screen when he draws Ippo with horrible fighting posture, among other things

Wouldn't Mashiba fall under that pure technique thing?

There's a few series on my read list that just got dropped by the groups or the groups died....like a series called Tough!

http://www.mangareader.net/737/tough.html

The last chapter was translated on in July of last year...the raws are out there but no group seems willing to pick it up...it makes me sad because it's one of my favorite series...like JBS said I wish I was able to help with these series that are good but just left to sit and never being discovered by us English readers.

I've read lots of manga that got dropped and never got picked up again. REALLY not a good feel when you enjoyed it.:( In other news, I'm in DIRE need of a job so I can buy all the badass artbooks of One Piece, Castlevania, and Nao Tsukiji I've seen over the last 48 hours, but they all cost between $70 to $100+.:icon_sad: That and just being unemployed really fucking sucks.:(

Volg gets fucked again?! Come on now.

It would be neat to see that type of fighter in the Ippo-verse.

Edit: This guy Volg is fighting right now is probably the closest we'll get to that though.

Nah. He is still a very gimmicky fighter due to an emphasis on his reach. To me a good technician should be someone who is able to use proper techniques to maximize what he have, not the other way around. Maybe the closest i can think of in Ippo-verse is Randy Boy Jr with his switch hitting style. It takes a lot of techniques and natural attributes to aligned to pull that shit off.

I hadn't read Tough in a while, didn't realize nobody was working on it. The series is complete, but only 21 of 39 volumes are translated. Another series I just thought of is Over Drive which is another completed series that's only partially translated (7 of 17 volumes).

The thing with mayweather is that he is also ridiculously talented one of if not the most physically gifted boxwes in the world , I do agree with trying to include a Hopkins type some one who is pure defense and technique to gwt the best out of younger faster opponents

I liked Kongou Banchou, not a masterpiece but still a good read , its run is already done in Japan but it is only now being completely getting released by Mangafox

So which is a better read D Gray Man or Soul Eater they look like the have decent and unique art and the tone seems similar , light hearted but with super natural elements

I've read Soul Eater for a couple years now, current with the chapters as of right now and I've enjoyed it..it has a good blend of comedy and many of the fights are quite entertaining, some of the plot is kinda meh at times *like any manga tho* and some of the characters are kinda bland and uninteresting at times but some of them are quite unique and fun.

But on the other hand I've heard several good things about D Gray manm a good friend of mine was reading it a few weeks ago and gave it many high praises, I've been meaning to read it but the times I've seen it discussed it seems to draw more praise then soul eater.

So it's all up to you da reader ^^

D Gray Man is better IMO.

Takun described SE good , while funny sometimes it can be mediocre when it comes to plot and characters.

Thanks you know I think Ill do D Grayman first since there are more chapters and I think ill let soul eater build up even more

I think D.Gray Man and Soul Eater both have their issues, but are both are entertaining. Overall I'd give the nod to D.Gray Man, but I haven't read either of them in a while so I can't speak to the more recent chapters. My blurbs:

D.Gray Man - Ongoing - [B+] - I generally enjoyed this series. It has a number of good characters and an interesting setting/premise. It avoids getting an A because 1) it can be hard to follow the plot at times, and 2) it stumbles for about 20 chapters starting around 160. After this period the series went on hiatus and then came back as a monthly release, and I think that was a good move because it seemed to "get its mojo back."
Soul Eater - Ongoing - [B] - This series focuses on students becoming "grim reaper" types. Some characters transform as weapons, and some characters use them. It has a unique art-style, but the storyline is nothing revolutionary. Good, not great.
