I think Morikawa got inspiration from a recent fight. It was Lucian Bute vs Librado Andrade 1 Bute was schooling Andrade for 11 rounds then in the 12 Bute got tired and Andrade caught him and knocked him down it should have been a count to 10 easily but halfway into the count the ref makes the excuse that Andrade was not in the neutral corner so he uses that to interrupt his count allowing Bute enough time to survive the round and win the cards in the scorecards, it was such obvious home cooking , Bute won a rematch by KO but the bad taste of his gift win from the Ref in the first fight still lingers for fight fans who remember it
UGH...I've heard of shit like that happening. I remember there was a bunch of REALLY corrupt shit going in the Olympics with a lot of judges having been given financial incentives or such things to favor boxers from certain countries.
