Its funny that you mentioned Mashima because quite frankly that's exactly who I had in mind and you know what the way Mashima draws them feels like cheap sex appeal while Oda's version looks cartoony like jessica rabbit parodies (to me anyways). Yeah Oda is living the good life makes you wonder if he sold his soul

Doubt it since when asked even HE can't quite fathom how OP got so big and just chalks it up to luck. Oddly enough the female measurements he used for Nami and Robin are actually normal as in they aren't exaggerated proportions or anything.

Edit: Nami would look like a red haired Ayane from DOA and Robin's is the same as Marilyn Monroe's(except she's 6'2").

Well a good story with engaging characters sells itself, oh and who doesn't love pirates. As for the proportions I think its more exaggerated lost time skip

Not really. The anime just makes it look worse since they switch art people so often, resulting in this.

It was actually more consistent pre time-skip especially in the CP9 Saga(which I still consider the best animated in the entire series).

Didn't Ippo have a fight not too long ago? I think it's time for Takamura to shine, feels like it has been forever since he had a fight. Hopefully it stays more to the style of this fight between Mike and Volg rather than the each fighter having a 'gimmick' like was becoming the norm.

The man lives the most ideal life, ESPECIALLY for a nerd. Loves his job, is married to an attractive ex-otaku cosplay performer who used to play on of his female main characters, is well respected by his peers(I read a great interview from '09 between him and the creator of Vagabond today that I'll post a link to for those interested), is beloved by his fans, makes a lot of money, and has created something that will leave a great mark in history.


Slightly off-topic, but when you mentioned the fan service to sell it reminded me of Mashima who sort of does that with Fairy Tail, but moreso in that many of his female characters just sort of look/feel short while Oda's look/feel very tall.

Thanks, felt it was time for a change. Wanted to include another quote in the sig, but Sherdog was being a dick about it. And yeah, it really is amazing and quite nice actually just how humble and down to earth Oda really is. There was another interview even earlier in his career where he mentions being kind of embarrassed of the possibility of being caught by his friends drawing manga since they might peg him as an Otaku(which if you look it up is NOT a good thing) and it motivated him to work hared to improve so he'd become a pro and it wouldn't matter.

Wasn't the exact word I wanted to use but I meant things like Itagaki's speed being so fast when hes focused that it's like hes in another dimension compared to everyone he fights and things of that nature. Though I suppose watching Roy Jones Jr in his prime kind of gave that same impression at times...

Yeah but Ippo's fight lasted a round it was epic 1 punch ko but c'mon it wasn't very exciting at all

To be honest I don't really follow the anime so I don't no5ice it much though I did catch some of the more epic scenes like Zoro fighting Kuma and Luffy knocking out a Tenryuubito

That fighter was Woli from Indonesia that was such a taxing fight that must have been why Morikawa decided to make his next fight a 1 punch affair, but next up Ippo is supposed t9 face the number 1 ranked fighter not named Ricardo Martinez a man who has only losses are to Martinez himself

Another thing that pissed me off about the woli fight is after it was all said and done, the coaches basically said that they can't fight again because Ippo would lose a rematch, the wiki sums it up a little more clearly though

" After the fight, Genji Kamogawa and Miguel Zale have a talk, and they understand that a rematch between their 2 fighters won't happen, since the only reason Ippo won was because of his experience, but now there is no factor that can give him a chance for victory. "

..I felt like it just completely throws Ippo under the bus by saying that there's someone out there with a "gimmick" basically that would utterly destroy him if the fight happened again...Maybe I'm looking too deep into because I hated the entire fight though.

Nope you're right to me he just threw his protagonist under the bus he basically said that Ippo got a flucky win because Woli was just a novice in terms of experience way to fucking shit on Ippo's hard work in favour of a fucking shitt ass prodigy
