I'm rewatching the series and really the fight with Zabuza and the Forest of Death so far has been more exciting than what we have been reading recently in Shippuden. Interesting characters (Zabuza and others), introduction of "major" secondary characters (Kiba, Shikamaru, Gaara) and Sasgay hasn't become super uber Sasgay yet.

It was the Zabuza arc that convinced me to stick with the manga its had its ups and downs originally after about 400 chapters I give naruto an -A now its borderline +C or -B

Honestly, this might be my bias as a big fan of Kenpachi's character but, Bleach is now 2nd of the "Big Three" since Naruto joined the battle and the Quincy killed off Yamamoto.
 
There are SOME things I like post time skip in the manga at least.

-Pein vs Naruto was a pretty cool battle (even with the WTFPWN reincarnation of people)

-Meeting Yamamoto (the wood guy, can't even remember his name) and him "replacing" Kakashi as Sakura and Naruto's team leader

There are a couple others.

I like Kenpachi because he is that awesome badass but to me he is not enough to put Bleach ahead of Naruto and needless to say its waaaaay behind One Piece in my book.

In Part 1 the fights, story, dialogue was so much better. Nothing in part 2 even comes close to fucking with Lee vs Gaara and Naruto vs Sasuke.

And the Sasuke Retrieval arc is STILL the best arc in the series.

Also Shippuden isn't nearly as funny as part 1. Hell it isn't funny at all. They completely threw humor out the window in part 2. Or when they try it is just sad.
 
Of the Shonen manga that one day may take the place of one of the Big Three, I like Toriko its over the top , the concept is unique there the story is interesting there is humour and the battles are epic.

I think what's been cool about Bleach recently is the way we are FINALLY getting pre-Ichigo backstory.

The stuff related with Yamato and the initial "hunt for Sasgay" arc they have is pretty interesting cause you get to see how much Naruto has improved.

Post time skip it definitely took on a darker tone though. Especially with Shikamaru's sensei getting killed and Kuzan and Hiden (or whatever the fuck those two unkillable bastards names were) and their "brand" of humor.

Toriko is awesome. I'm only on episode 3 of the anime lol, but my brothers always talk about it and they showed me some fights and it looks legit as hell

Aside from the characters they seem like two completely different productions in way. Don't get me wrong the beginning of Shippuden was awesome with the Akatsuki, Sasuke hunt, and seeing the result of everyone's progression. But goddamn the story and started to get lame IMO.

My interest has increased after reading last chapter and this might save some excitement for me overall.

I'll end up getting to starting over Shippuden but right now I am just enjoying the Chunin exam.

Shikamaru's constant bitching almost seems worse pre-timeskip.
