Couple quick reviews.
Copelion - Ongoing - [C-] - Something about this sci-fi series just doesn't sit right with me. I think it's a combination of the character drawings being a bit funky (hard to nail down exactly what, maybe the eyes?) and the plot feeling somewhat contrived (genetically altered schoolgirls sent into a radioactive wasteland in story that's otherwise played fairly straight).
Kekkaishi - Complete - [B-] - I was pretty disappointed with this shonen. The individual characters are well written and the mystery element was compelling, but the overall plot was disjointed and there was too much goddamn filler material. The first big arc was very poorly resolved (to the point that it made the whole thing feel unnecessary) and the ending was shite. This could have been tightened up by a better author and it might have been in the A- category, but as is it was just too sloppy for me to really recommend.
Kokou no Hito - Complete - [C+] - I think I might have enjoyed this more if I hadn't just read Eden recently. As it is, I can't really handle another tragedy series right now. There were times where I thought the series was really engaging, but there's also story elements that just don't make sense to me (I think it's largely a difference between US and Japanese culture). Oh, and the author puts way to much detail into the main character's lips; it makes them look really out of place.
PEAK - Ongoing - [B-] - The artwork in this webtoon is extremely good. The color's, character artwork, and backgrounds are all A+ material. But I just wasn't all that interested. The setting (mountain rescue team) doesn't grab me, and after 10 chapters there was still very little character development. People who are more interested in the outdoors would probably get more out of this series than I did. If nothing else, it's worth checking out for the art.
