People should have to be convicted before they’re taken into custody? If I smash a mall Santa across the teeth with a brick the cops should arrive, take statements, gather evidence and then ask me to show up to court in a few weeks for my trial? Romania is a lovely country. I hate hearing it referred to as a shithole. It's a gorgeous country. But yes, crime and corruption there is on an entirely new level to anywhere else in Europe. If I was a scumbag like Tate that's where I would go.

However. Given that this guy apparently is a baller, it's also a country you buy yourself out of in about 5 hours.

So, he's either not a baller, or there's something else going on

I'm leaning towards him not being a baller

How much power do you think a "baller" has? If some high level Romanian politician has decided Tate needs to rot in jail, then that's probably what's going to happen. If it's a corrupt country, the courts are probably corrupt as well, so his punishment has probably already been decided.

I don't know if Tate is guilty of anything, but like you stated, this long term hold without charges is suspicious. You either have the goods or you don't.

I'm not familiar with the guy, so I have not seen those videos. I am familiar with how the Western World's Power Elite treated Julian Assange. It makes me weary as it should make everyone suspicious.
