Television ANDOR Season 2 (Premieres April 22)

What the fuck is up with the Jar-jar Binks looking fella in the jungle? Most annoying voice and presence in all of SW. Fuck that guy, I hope he gets smoked in the worst possible way.
"Me'sa slit your throat and then have sex with your corpse"

I just learned that the moon that Cassian escaped from in the first two episodes is Yavin. Pretty cool. That means the rebels that was marooned there eventually made that into the rebel base that we saw in A New Hope.

Yup, that was the biggest easter egg but there apparently are many more. This series was incredibly well planned and thought out.

Tough crowd in here. You guys think the writing/production quality is worse than S1?

To me it feels consistent. Even the flow of the first 3 episodes is similar to S1 with an exciting open, slow build and then SHTF. I also read some episode recaps to help me unpack everything. There are lots of easter eggs in there.

I'll be surprised if this doesn't get even better after next week's episodes, but this feels like the Better Call Saul of the SW universe. We know how this ends but hopefully it continues to be well-crafted with some surprises thrown in.
Season 1 did take a pretty similar path in its first three episodes, you have the story of Cassian being tracked by Syril but really most of those episodes is made up of character buildup similar to here. it was really more after that you saw the kind of thriller set pieces become the main focus of the show.

I do think a lot of the appeal of the show regardless though is how well it builds its setting and characters, it gives even small supporting roles the kind of depth you rarely see even in non genre entertainment. Were it not for that I don't think the set pieces would work nearly so well.

What I thin has changed though is that "Andor" is probably going to be less focused on Andor himself this time. Season 1 was really about his character development and by this point he's pretty close to his Rogue One state I would say were as characters like Mon Mothma and Luthen are argutely more interesting for me. I'd guess Cassian will still be a big role but not the dominant role.

Could just be me, but I don't think Cassian was ever the dominant role and his character has never been the most interesting. One of the early criticisms of the show before it aired was that it was presumably focused on a character no one cared about.

World building has always been the centerpiece of this series and it's done that through the eyes of characters both major and minor. Cassian is in the mix, but he's just your average Sherdogger doing Sherdogger things during a rebellion. Far more interesting are Luthen, Mothma, Dedra and the random NPCs we get to see and hear from while all this shit goes down.

This show is just beautiful. The opening shot in episode one alone was just chef's kiss. So many incredible shots and imagery. Loved that they really spent on lavish sets and shot on location. Loved that there's little to no alien lifeforms in Andor. And even when they are there, they are not prominently featured and are just in the background and out of focus.

Mon Mothma's dancing to EDM was hot. I know I'm not the only one. ;)

He was definitely never as dominant as the series name would suggest I'd agree, I think that was in part Disney mareting were they always tend to just name things after the most well known character involved.

I do thin he played a big role in season 1 though, you saw his character move from someone without much interest in the wider struggle against the Empire into someone committed into taking it down.

I do think Mothma especially is a really interesting character now, she's committed to the rebellion to some degree but not to Luthen's methods and you obviously see the increasing divide with her family.

The ironic thing is I think she's actually turned out to be the best casting choice Lucas made in the prequels IMHO.

I'm a sucker for rich girls at a toga rave.

I thought it was funny

What I liked was Andor's loyalty to the hot girl and other buddies. Once he heard they might be in trouble, he raced to save them and ignored the radio girl who might or might not be Princess Leia.

I did like the techno dance music but it was just weird seeing that in Star Wars and the daughter's quite fugly.

Episode 2 was total filler. E3 now, with the wedding and Syril's mom, why is everything so damn cringey?

Aside from the TIE fighter scenes wrecking Imperial shit, everything about the first three episodes fucking blows. Tony Gilroy is a can.
Amen.

I've read in this thread from quite a few people that they love this series because it's Star Wars for adults. Season 1 actually felt that way, but opening season 2 with these idiots in the jungle isn't that adult. It feels like a bad joke, maybe Ewoks for adult viewers?

When everything else feels like serious drama, no one would have objected if they had cut out the entire Tiefighter plot. I don't even think it was fun to watch when Cassian couldn't get control of the craft. A scene that simply doesn't belong in an otherwise serious dark version of the Star Wars world.

Mothma's spoiled daughter and Karn's mom are supposed to be cringey lol. The other characters having to put up with their shit while doing their day jobs is a big part of what makes this show awesome.

If anything, Cassian should have had MORE trouble piloting that craft. In the easter eggs video I posted above, apparently it's a TIE Avenger, a prototype of the TIE Interceptor that was never put into production, mainly because it was made by the same company that made the X-wings that Anakin and Obi Wan are piloting in the opening of ROTS and flies too differently than regular TIE fighters. So it's a one-off craft and Cassian goes in clueless. I'll allow it but it was a stretch for him to blast his way out of the facility and outmaneuver trained TIE fighters in pursuit.

And he shouldn't have been able to just swoop in from orbit and blast the stormtroopers like MF'ing Boba Fett in the Slave 1. He should have flown in crooked (because one of the engines got disabled from his fumbling), tried to blast the stormtroopers but missed (because he couldn't get the tracking to engage), and finally resorted to blasting the grain silos to smother the ground troops and then landing on a troop carrier, crushing it because he can't get the missiles to launch.

And the rebels on Yavin are supposed to be idiots - that's the point. IRL people do stupid shit every day and everyone in this show is a regular person, which means they're either an idiot or they have to deal with idiots on the regular, even canon bigwigs like Mothma.

Honestly I thought the militia boys with no education past second grade who can't do anything right when their commander is clipped because they have no discipline and no chain of command were super realistic for a desperate insurgency.
