Anderson Silva - The Uncontested GOAT

He also lost twice in his prime and couln't figure out how to finish fights after a while.

Awesome athlete. Not the GOAT fighter.

GSP avenged every loss ... he has the most complete CV from a purist POV.

Purist meaning "by the standards I decided are the most important.

Losing in your prime and a sub 55% finishing rate is a pretty big knock on a record. Have a good CV is fine. Greatest of all time takes greatness, not a "solid CV".

purist in terms of having a 100% record .... he literally beat every SINGLE fighter that he fought.

Anderson lost in his prime aswell. And to worse fighters.

He got subbed by Takase who was 4-7 going into that fight. Dude had a NEGATIVE record. And then he got subbed again by Chonan.

Anderson has the worst losses by far of any other "GOAT" candidate

GSP > Silva
Aldo > Silva
Jones > Silva
Fedor > Silva

5th place

He also lost.... in his prime. And he beat many fighters on points. Didn't have the longest reign. Didn't finish opponents or take on bigger/physically superior opponents.

GOAT MMA athlete. Not GOAT fighter.

I agree. He also had the longest prime... or had two primes. Depending on how you look at it. But I'm not talking about Silva. I'm talking about GSP.

Well, MOST of Anderson's opponents were physically smaller than him, Griffin and Bonnar whilst being phsically slightly bigger than Silva were stylystically tailor-made to Anderson. You could argue that he cherry-picked his opponents at LHW ... and did his best to avoid Jones/Evans/Shogun ... and was pursuing "super-fights" with the physically smaller GSP .... so don't act like Anderson was beating up giants.

GSP's losses can be crossed off, because he avenged them in devastating fashion.

I agree.

There's no "undisputed" or "clear-cut" GOAT. It's opinions versus opinions.

*Fedor's era sucked and he fought a handful of cans
*GSP lost in prime and couldn't finish
*Ando was big, lost to low-tier fighters, and cherrypicked bigs
*Aldo is in a division considered weak
*Jones is avoiding HWs and beat up old guys and MWs

Pick your poison.

With all this PED drama running around I think we need to clear a couple things up regarding GOAT discussions. It's really unfair to have Jon Jones, Fedor and GSP in the same discussions as Anderson Silva when it comes to GOAT discussion as he has be found to use PED's. But lets be honest, anytime there's going to be discussions around who is the GOAT his name is going to be brought up strongly, it's really unfair on the other users who haven't been caught to be using.

You can say lets eliminate Andy from discussions but lets be real here he's going to be brought up in the discussions whether you like it or not.

The only way to resolve this, is to have two categories for GOAT - Super Human & Normal Human. I think this makes the most sense.

For the normal human's I don't think there's a real clear cut GOAT atm, I think Fedor and Jones are fighting it out for that spot but it's always going to be subjective i feel.

Out of the Super Human GOAT contenders - Anderson, Wandy, Vitor... who else? I feel safe in saying, Anderson Silva is the Super Human GOAT of all time.

I will never understand how you people can consider anyone other that the greatest HW ever as The GOAT. Fighters who need weight class protection can't be GOATs.

I was the undefeated king of fighting at 7 years of age. I was fighting and beating guys 4 years older and much bigger than me every day. Am I the GOAT? NO, even if I had a record of 500-0 at my age, I wouldn't be sh*t against grown up dudes of big size.

It's the same with this silly P4P mentality.

P4P doesn't matter.

Lower weight division's greats can only be GOATs of their own weight division.

Unless you can call a guy who would get his ass kicked by a multitude of bigger dudes your GOAT.

No way that's the GOAT.

Jones cuts weight to avoid the old and weak HW division of today. What does that tell you? Reality.

It's very simple.

With or without steroids the idea that Anderson Silva is the greatest and most skilled fighter the sport has ever seen is nothing short of laughable, and insulting.

He was a brilliant counter striker without much else to note. Great winning streak, very impressive, very, very good fighter and one of the best I've seen compete. But not even close to the best. He never was, but the UFC sold this idea to an era of fans that ate it up without putting an ounce of critical thought into it.

I'm happy it's over.

Perfectenschlag. This all day.
