Anderson Silva Second To None

My all time favorite mma fighter. Prior to moving from the U.S., I was sitting at the bank waiting to close one of my accounts. Next to me was a teenage boy also waiting. Turns out he was waiting for his dad…Anderson Silva. They left the bank and drove off in a white Range Rover. I believe this was around the time of Anderson’s last fight in the UFC.

Not as cool as seeing BJ Penn at the airport, but a close second. (My first time seeing Anderson was at a place called ET Surf in Hermosa Beach, CA when he was new to the UFC. Apparently his then manager Ed Soares used to work there as a teenager. Anderson came in with Ed and Big Nog).

Mine too, i don't get that anxious feeling from any fights anymore. Like I did when that DMX ain't no sunshine hit
 
Prime Chimaev subs prime Silva. Other than that I’d favor prime Silva over the rest of the top mws.

Yup.. that anxious feeling.. Watching Machida fight also gave me that feeling.

I don't know bud, he had trouble with gilbert, if you gas, like that against anderson, he's dead. And don't forget he couldn't sub du plesis. Anderson's jitz was on point, courtesy of Nog.

Without the clowning there was nothing for Silva to do. Weidman did an excellent job of staying disciplined and not overextending, and Silva was trying anything he could to draw him out.
 
Anderson had so much aura going into fights. Fighters lack that today.

Yeah, there are good fights but it's rare that you sit there thinking you're about to see some amazing shit.

The lack of defenses nowadays really kills a lot of the excitement. There's no "will this be the day they finally dethrone him?"

Disagree. Weidman had his number. Anderson clowned because nothing else was working for him. His Aura was still in tact except Chris wasn't scared of him. In the two years right before the Chris fight Anderson front kicked TRTitor back to Bolivia, ran thru Okami, decisively beat his toughest opponent in the UFC Chael in the rematch and styled on Bonnar. Anderson wasn't suddenly a geriatric aged fighter. He beat Nick Diaz after, went toe to toe with future champion Bisping and gave LHW champion DC all he could handle as a last minute replacement.

The Chris was built to beat the Spider.

Right. You were on the edge of your seat before the fight even started. UFC today is lacking that can't miss feeling. Nobody has that aura about them. Like you can even feel it through your television.

2 years is a long time when you're in your late thirties.
And especially when your style relies on speed and precision.

No small coincidence that both Anderson and GSP lost title fights to Ray Longo fighters.

His gameplan for Anderson was PERFECT.

Keep range.
Engage on your own terms only.
Do NOT over-extend.
Do not get drawn into long back and forth exchanges to allow counters.
Stay defensively responsible at all times.
Take no unnecessary chances.

What many don't understand is that he'd have 15-16 title defenses if he stayed exclusively at MW. The Travis Lutter fight also should've been a title defense, but Lutter not making weight screwed Silva out of the #1 all time spot.

But yea Anderson was doing things that still haven't and won't be replicated any time soon.

2,457 days as champion, one of a kind. No fighter has ever carved out an organizational legacy like Silva when you consider he joined the UFC at age 30! Islam tied his winning streak but Islam joined the UFC at age 23! With context, his records are pretty untouchable.

You edited before I could reply. My point was gonna be about time, lol. Anderson was 37/38 at the time. And his style relied a lot on reflexes. I respect your opinion but disagree. Age beat him not chris
 
We were lucky as hell to get to see prime Anderson, GSP, and Penn all in the ufc at the same time. Man, what a time to be alive.
