So incase anyone forgot, wanted to remind everyone what a beast anderson was. The things he was able to pull off in the cage were incredible.. The state of MW is pretty sad, IMO.
If you think driscus, or Sean, or Rob, or Izzy, Romero, even Pereira, Anyone could go toe to toe with this man.You're out of your fuckin tree. Chimaev would be front kicked or kneed to Bolivian.
Losing and losing to time are two different things. I feel like anyone who discredits him Didn't experience his reign firsthand. A sight to behold..You kinda had to be there If you know, you know.
Also shout out to FlyWin. Don't know what happened to him, but he made the greatest highlights. A legend in the space. i'm pretty sure he did the 3rd Man, for my guys who remember.

come on guys. anderson silva was an innovator and a pioneer and a very creative clever man but the guy dominated in an era where people didnt really know what they were doing on the feet. The first time he faced a guy who knew what a feint was he died. He was also allergic to wrestling. GSP and Jones would have both dominated him as would the mw champs who came after him. His importance is undeniable but his actual resume and skillset are weak for an MMA fighter. Whittaker beats him up, izzy dominates him on points, alex kos him, strickland 50-45s him, ddp beats him to death and so does khamzat. everyone in the mw top 10 right now would have beaten him at his best. only champ hed have a chance against is rockhold cause of rockholds shit defense and lack of wrestling

anderson couldnt wrestle a lick. he gets held down. and the stuff weidman did would have worked against any version of anderson because of how well it disrupted his head movement

Pereira got KO’d by a mental midget. Also lost a decision handily to Ank which never happened to Anderson - he was never out classed.

He was my favourite MMA fighter. What he accomplished in terms of fight performance was legendary. He seemed untouchable by then and had some aura coming into the cage, during interviews etc. truly a legend of the sport.

I don't think many legends of today will stick in MMA history as much as him.
 
And yeah i initially was an Anderson hater but after rooting for Chael in their first fight I realized I was watching greatness and that I needed to appreciate it while it was still there. No one does it like him then or since. Only person that came close was Jon and maybe some individual performances from guys like GSP or BJ-but consistent highlights against EVERYONE even Champs from the weight class above? Anderson is special-to this day the dude is special.

Agree cause Izzy and Poatan outsize him, and Chimaev cause he's the strongest wrestler in the division's history. I think Silva could KO Whittaker and DDP, and win decisions vs. Izzy and Strickland. Silva wasn't small and he has a chance against anyone he can counter.

His reflexes we're declining and Weidman really cracked him and got some free shots in. I'll admit I haven't seen his highlights before the UFC in many years.

IMO the 1st major sign was him getting dropped by a guy known for not being able to bust a grape. His chin was legendary for a long time and I was shocked when he got dropped by a pillow fist... little did we know he was steadily declining from there maybe even earlier

With them being foreign or whatever, a lot of my favorite fighters didn't even speak English, but i loved them just the same. Every event felt special.
You might be right about this saturation, i miss events all the time now. That was unheard of. I would be legit sad if i missed anything. Now Sometimes I don't even know they're on.

Yeah I remember at that price point you would just get spontaneous get togethers. $40 is a low barrier to entry for a group of adults, even if you're all poor. One guy orders the ppv, people bring over beer and pizzas, used to be a really good time. And like you said back then I knew just about every fighter on the roster. I don't really watch anymore these days, they lost me back during the double paywall era with nearly $100 cards.
