Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo. Who had the better career? Is it close?

I dont know, but Aldo's dogged savage relentless determination to stay near the top even in his later years is unbelievable

Still practically untakedownable til the very end.

Silva is definitely higher.

It’s debatable whether Aldo is even the FW GOAT. I say Volkanovski has already surpassed him

How is Volk above Aldo?
Volk has 5 defenses and 3 of them are to the same guy (2nd one he arguably lost), and the other 2 are against the ghost of KZ and the other to Ortega.

Aldo, and it's not even close tbh sir.

I also have Aldo above Volk in terms of overall FW accomplishments.

I guess those who say Volk > Aldo probably look at the fact he beat Aldo head to head, as well as Max Holloway, who beat Aldo twice.
I still think thats flawed to an extent, and overall body of work is more important.

Exactly.
MMA math is not how these things should be evaluated sir.

Anderson because he lost his title on a fluke.
Aldo lost his title in his Prime,---got mirked. Probably the worst title defense of any champion in MMA history. Aldo beat the Jeremy Stephens of the world, wow. Once he had to fight the next generation of FW (Volk and Holloway), he got beat down.

I love Aldo, but it’s Anderson and it’s not that close.

First he fought grown men, and second he was finishing everyone in spectacular fashion.

Prime Matrix Spider > anyone imo

Possibly two of the greatest Brazilian fighters of all time

Who had the better career, and do you think its close? Last time I asked about BJ Penn and Jose Aldo and like 95% said it was Aldo and it wasn't really close. Curious what people think of Aldo and Silva, and how far apart they are in greatness and career achievements

Anderson Silva
-Widely regarded as MW GOAT, and mentioned alongside GSP, Fedor, Jones etc
-longest title reign in UFC history (2457 days)
-10 title defenses
-34 wins, 11 losses
-One of the best strikers in history
-Multiple record holder, such as most wins in MW history and longest winstreak in UFC
-Wins over Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort, Rich Franklin, Forrest Griffin, Nate Marquardt etc

Jose Aldo
-Widely considered as FW GOAT
-Unbeaten for over a decade, 25-1 record at one point
-31 wins 8 losse
-Most FW title defenses in UFC history, at 7 (9 if you include WEC)
-Wins over Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes, Korean Zombie,, Kenny Florian, Cub Swanson etc
-One of the best TDD in history

That's a good question. My first instinct is to pick Anderson, but after some thought; it's Aldo for me. Pissing dirty is a disqualifier for me. Same reason why Jones, Werdum, and TJ will never go down as top tier in my opinion.

Jose Aldos career is underrated by post Mcgregor/newer fans of MMA.<mma3> Watching that guy come up the ranks in the WEC and beating the daylights out of Mike Brown for the belt was the moment the world woke up to how great he could be. I remember Jose setting up big shots with exaggerated feints, and finishing early with heavy gnp. It was very impressive. For him to defend for as long as he did, against the competition fought, which is unquestionably a tier above Anderson's, it's Aldo who had the better career. No question.

Silva for me,

12 middleweight title wins in a row vs 8 ufc title wins in a row

Silva also fought at light heavy 3 times during his reign in non-title fights for fun.

Silvas top wins:

rich franklin x2 destruction(both fights are basically the same)

nate marquart destruction (when nate was a beast)

made dan henderson look like a child in his 2 round submission win

koed vitor belfort into oblivion with an upkick (hat tip to stephen segal lol)

forrest griffen ko - made forrest look like a handicapped 5 year old redheaded stepchild.

sonnen x 2

treated iron chinned chris leben like a bloody tampon in his ufc debut.

Oof that's a close one, but I guess I'm leaning Anderson. Aldo is damn close though. I think Aldo is a more complete fighter, but Anderson's run was just so god damn incredible.

Silva’s more accomplished but Aldo faced tougher opponents. Not too many fighters have wins better than Frankie Edgar x2. In a world without Aldo, Frankie would be a dominant FW champ and a champ in two weight classes.

I think you could make a strong argument of Aldo being a better P4P fighter. Solely on his ability to defend TD’s. Andy got knocked over by a stiff wind. Before anyone gets defensive, I’m a big fan of both of them.

Ignoring the PED situation, Silva. But not by a mile. It's a lot closer than first reaction suggests. Both in the top 6.

Fedor, GSP, Jones, Silva (in some order)

Aldo, DJ (in some order)

Khabib is 7th.
