In far too many Muslim majority countries, the minorities are routinely tormented, persecuted, have impositions (overt and unspoken) placed on them, face systemic government discrimination. It's like pre Civil Rights era South, only worse in some ways because there is no Bill of Rights and there is a deliberate attempt to ethnically cleanse and forcefully assimilate them.

This is the kind of stuff that awaits Europe as the Muslim population grows. Harassment and abuse of non-Muslims already happens in some parts of Western Europe.

Can I ask exactly what is the difference between say a Orthodox Christian, Catholic, and Coptic Christian? I always thought a Coptic Christian was a part of the protestant branches but quick Googling shows it's not that simple.

I know Lebanon only exists cause the French carved it out for Coptic Christians (I thought) but that's the only bit I truly know about.

lebanon is for maronite christians. oldest catholic branch basically. their church based out of syria and is old. lebanon used to be mostly christian and the people there were by and large original inhabitants who converted to christianity. but now that has changed most maronites now left lebanon and syria. tons of arab christians live in south america or other countries now.

I know the main difference between Catholics and Orthodox Christians has to do with how they treat idols and such.

Christianity has always been fractured with different traditions and beliefs being followed in different areas. The Coptics (most of them at least) are part of the Oriental Orthodoxy, which split from Rome and Constantinople very early in the Church's history over differences in Christology. They are a very old Christian tradition.

From a western or American perspective, there is a Roman Catholic branch and a Protestant branch that split off from it about 500 years ago. That is, in reality, only part of the story. An entirely different branch has always existed, often called Eastern Orthodox. For people familiar with American Roman Catholic churches and a variety of Protestant churches, Eastern Orthodox churches are even more liturgical and "formal" than Roman Catholic churches. There's no quick way to explain that. The Eastern Orthodox churches are organized by country; Russian Orthodox and Antiochene are two that I have attended services at. The wedding at the beginning of the movie The Deer Hunter is at an Eastern Orthodox church. The Coptic Church is closer to Eastern Orthodox than Roman Catholic or Protestant. Incidentally, the Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic church only. Coptic is a language that is a mix of Egyptian and Greek. The Greeks conquered Egypt in the time of Alexander the Great, and many of the people that sometimes are associated with Egypt, such as the Cleopatra (there were more than one) are Greek. The Coptic Church split with the Eastern Orthodox church over very precise language concerning the description of God, God the Son, the Holy Spirit, The Incarnate Word, Jesus, divine nature/ human nature of the Word/Jesus, etc.
